Aletheia asks…The Beauty Brains said “the propellants [in mousse] evaporate almost immediately and after a few minutes you can use heated appliances.” I guess no, but is there any problem is you use heat immediately?

The Right Brain responds:

This question comes from the comments section of a post we did recently on the fact that mousse contains propane, the same flammable gas used in BBQ grills. Our answer was that the propellant in the mousse dissipates from your hair so quickly that there’s little to no chance that it could be ignited by heat styling tools.

But rather than give you just a theoretical answer, this time we’re giving you a demonstration. We created a short video showing the effects of setting mousse on fire. (And instead of using heat stylng tools we’re making it really tough by using a lighter!)

Here’s the catch – this video is exclusive content for Facebook page fans. So click on over to Facebook to see the fireworks. And while you’re there, please become a fan of our page. As Left Brain pointed out recently, we’re good at beauty science, but not so good at social media (yet). We’re trying to figure out how to get more fans on Facebook so we’d appreciate any way you can help us spread the word.
