Cathy’s question…My face is really gross at the moment. My cheeks are flaming with weird red blotchy bumps that I can’t seem to get rid of! It’s not acne! I’ve been using Guinot anti-redness treatment but it doesn’t seem like its working these bumps are really worrying me. Also I have some small faint delicate multi-wrinkles up there are there any wrinkle cream suitable for 16 years old? I don’t want to be 60 and none of the wrinkle creams would work on me cause when I was little I was so accustomed to heavy creams.

Cathy, I don’t know what’s causing your blotchy skin bumps, but it sounds like you should see a dermatologist. As far as wrinkles are concerned, I wouldn’t be too worried at your age. Wrinkles occur as we age because of a breakdown of collagen and elastin, two of the key building blocks of skin. Using a moistuirizing wrinkle cream on skin at age 16 doesn’t have any effect on wrinkles that you’ll get at age 60. And your skin doesn’t “get used” to creams and lotions – skin biology doesn’t work that way.
What really works?
But, here’s something that does matter: sun exposure! UV radiation damages skin and eventually leads to wrinkles. A sunscreen reflects or absorbs that dangerous radiation and protects the underlying skin structures. Since that kind of damage is cumulative (meaning it builds up over time) sun protection is helpful even during your teen years. So you should consider using a facial moisturizer with sunscreen if you’re concerned about wrinkles.
The Beauty Brains bottom line
Don’t waste your money on wrinkle creams but it wouldn’t hurt to start using sunscreen. That’s the best antiaging skin care treatment, especially if you live in a climate where you get a lot of sun exposure. Shop for facial sunscreens here.

I’m pretty sure this is not true… The reason that people with oily skin tend to get wrinkles later is because their skin is more moisturized and does not fold as easily, thus preventing lines from appearing quickly. So wouldn’t using a highly moisturizing wrinkle cream even at a young age delay the formation of wrinkles?
I understood that the reason why people with oily skin get wrinkles later isn’t being moisturized–it’s that oily skin tends to occur in people who have skin that is thicker and possibly also less sun sensitive, i.e., on average more pigmented than people with dryer skins (though I’m not sure about the latter part). My understanding is that thicker skin tends to wrinkle less but is more likely (due to its weight) to sag and form jowls.
To the original questioner–I would definitely see a dermatologist. I wonder if what seems to be wrinkles could be that the skin is a little inflamed and puffy, and that’s causing it to crease or pucker temporarily. Also, even teens can have subtle expression lines (like on your forehead), but that is different from the wrinkles older people have. Don’t worry–just see a doctor and get checked out.
now,i’m 20,i have wrinkle near my eyes, and i have many pimples in my forehead, i didn’t know how to get rid of it.
What about this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcHpuutL6o0 ? He says just the opposite…
For sure, staying out of the sun is great for wrinkles. And so is never laughing, never crying, never squinting so you can be the first one to see your dad driving up the driveway after work…. Pretty much all the fun stuff.
