Look at the Label: Lush Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner

by Right Brain on December 3, 2011 · 5 comments

Product Girl recently blogged about Lush’s Argan Body Conditioner, let’s take a look label to see what goodies it contains.

Ingredients

Fresh Spring Water (Aqua)
The solvent for the rest of the ingredients. Technically this is mislabeled since “water” is the correct legal name for H2O.

Glycerine
Moisturizer

Almond Oil (Prunus dulcis),  Cypress Leaf Infusion (Cupressus sempervirens), Brazil Nut Oil (Bertholletia Excelsa), Vanilla Pod (Vanilla planifolia), Fair Trade Shea Butter (Butyrospermum parkii)
Moisturizing oils. Some mislabeling again since “Fair Trade” isn’t part of the legal name of this material.

Stearic Acid
A fatty material that makes up the backbone of the formula.

Argan Oil (Argania spinosa) and Cupuacu Butter (Theobroma Grandiflorum)
More moisturizing oils, but this is fairly low on the ingredient list for product with “Argan” in the name if you ask me.

Perfume
Smelly stuff

Triethanolamine
A high pH base that reacts with Stearic Acid to form soap. (Yeah that’s right, this body conditioner is based on a  soap-type emulsion.)

Cocoa Butter (Theobroma cacao)
Mmmm. Cocoa moisture.

Goji Berry Decoction (Lycium barbarum)
Sounds good on the label, doesn’t do anything.

Rose Absolute (Rosa damascena)
Smells good, might irritate your skin.

Cetearyl Alcohol
Another fatty material that gives the product a thick consistency.

Geranium Oil (Pelargonium graveolens), Lemon Oil (Citrus limonum), Limonene, Citronellol, Coumarin, Geraniol
Chemicals that are part of the fragrance and which have to be listed separately because they have been identified as potential allergens.

Methylparaben, Propylparaben
Preservatives that scare the hell out of some people for no valid scientific reason.

Wonderful scent. Moisturizing. Way overpriced.

@Tina: I loved the simplicity of your comment. It sounds like a haiku style beauty product review, lol:

Wonderful scent
Moisturizing
Way overpriced.

I’d love to see see more beauty product haiku reviews. Anybody up for the challenge??

Haven’t used this product from Lush, and am shocked to read the ingredients! Thank you for the post, and the haiku. No, after that wonderful example, not going to attempt one of my own! xx

It smells lovely, is overpriced as all Lush products are, but does a nice job of giving my body a moisture cocoon. That is really nicec once the dry air of winter starts cranking up here:)

I have this and I love it but if I use too much it can make my skin way too oily/filmy. It reminds me of the scent of “Rose Jam” another of their scents/products. I think the reason why it feels so greasy on my is due to all of those fatty materials!
