Hi Beauty Brains,

My question for you is: Are there ANY hair products out there that can actually reconstruct/repair hair (as opposed to just protecting it from further damage)?

I actually have a lot of questions but I’m finding this one the most interesting at the moment!

Thanks!

Is is possible to make pressed makeup without using any synthetics? This is one I’ve been wondering about for a while!

Can nail polish, like from http://www.remedynails.com/, be “healthy”? Is their claim that they have the most unique polish on the market true?

Is there a really big difference between using SPF 15 and SPF 30 facial moisturizer? If so, why? I was told to wear 30 in order to prevent rosacea flare ups.

Long time reader, first time commenter. I’m very excited about this feautre, can’t wait to read your responses to beauty bloggers burning questions!

My question is, many brands are now toting “DNA technology” in their topical products. Is it really possible for a topical cosmetic to penetrate the skin deeply enough, and have effects on DNA?

My blog is: http://dollyrouge.ie

Thanks!

What are your thoughts on perfluorocarbons in skin care?

I’ve noticed the use of Perfluorodecalin and Perfluoromethyl-cyclopentane as a slip agent in some formulations. As well they are purported to deliver oxygen to the skin. Perfluorodecalin has been used in this way to enhance wound healing…

However I know that perfluorocarbons in general can be environmental pollutants and can also bioaccumulate.

Is their any justification in their use in skin care products?

Thanks Beauty Brains!

Brazilian Blowouts were found to release formaldehyde. Are the Keratin-based hair-straightening products that I see stylists in salons doing that much safer on hair/environment? Thank you.

Hey, Folks, Thanks for including me in your discussion. My question (& I’m sure others’ too) is how often should we exfoliate? With ever increasing choice in exfoliators on the market and differing advice as to regularity of use (sometimes as a marketing ploy to buy more product), ideally how often should we be exfoliating? Are we doing more harm than good with daily products?

I’m loving the new Sally Hansen nail strips, but I’m have two questions about them. One, how exactly does the company manage to use real nail polish that isn’t dried and crumbly by the time I open the package? Two, is there a way for me to make my own strips to avoid the hassle of manicuring my non-dominant hand? Thanks so much!

I love your blog and your tips !

Do you think it’s possible to “fix” split ends without cutting your hair ? I keep cutting mine because of damaged ends but they keep coming back !

Does using facial oils, from certain brands or in general, under a sunscreen affect how good it works? My skin loves certain oils and in spring/summer I use them during the day underneath my sunscreen.
I was wondering if it affected the spf, how good it protects, does the oil dissolve some of the protection of it’s a chemical one?

Does zinc oxide and titanium dioxide in products give sunprotection the same way?

I was wondering what The Beauty Brains thought about the idea that you need to use toner after cleansing in order to restore the skin to its proper pH. I’ve come around to thinking that this is an outdated beauty idea, but I would love to hear your take on it.

Love your blog! Thanks!

HLNB - Michelle February 1, 2012 at 10:59 am

Thanks for hosting the February Link Love! My question is: Do you know of any natural hair color product on the market yet (other than Henna) for people to use in place of the ones on the market with harsh chemicals? I’ve heard of a few salons that have options for consumers but they don’t allow us to purchase them and use on our own. It seems there is a trend right now in the beauty industry with natural ingredients and I’m wondering if you’ve heard of any coming up with hair color that regular consumers can buy and that actually work without too much complication.
Thanks!

I’ve always had thick, poufy hair that also frizzes easily. Is there a way or product to bring down the volume and smoothen hair without using a flat iron to straighten?
Thanks!

I was just discussing with a good friend of mine on how to get women active and workout more when they’re constantly worrying about their hair. We determined that it has to be the types of products and not knowing how to properly style or care for their hair which often discourages them from working out. Crazy, right?! But, my question is–are there any products out there that can help women maintain their hair so they can’t use the excuse to not work out is because it ruins their hair? Good luck answering this one. I really struggled to find the right way to word this question…lol!!!

I know the answer really depends on many factors, like hair type, possibly length, and others, but there has to be something out there (product wise) that can help, so there’s not anymore excuses to get healthy!

Thanks for hosting this Link Love Month! Love your blog, too, btw :-D My inquiry is as follows: I’ve been wanting to highlight my hair, but it’s black, and since it’s commonly advised not to go more than 2-3 shades lighter than your natural color, it’d seem pointless for me to even try. On top of that, I have very sensitive skin that will break out in hives when a strong fragrance floats by. On the directions for traditional hair coloring kits, it says not to use on sensitive skin. So is it possible to safely lighten dark hair if you have sensitive skin? Is there a natural hair coloring product anywhere on the market?

Hi, in your blog you talked about the 1% line. I’m not a cosmetic chemist and I kind of always wondered how to guestimate where the 1% line is.

So my question is, if you’re not a cosmetic chemist, what’s a good guide to know more or less the ratio of an ingredient to the whole product?
