Kittenesque Perfume: In the Beauty Brains Bathroom

Spoiler alert: You won’t find any useful science info in today’s post.

Have you smelled Flirt’s new Kittenesque fragrance?  I got a sample in the mail this weekend and  it smells great! I love the hints of vanilla, but I’d like it a bit more if it had more of a fruity smell.  Besides the scrumptious scent, the best part might just be the packaging. It comes in a kitschy, retro leopard skin print bottle that reminds me of 50′s lounge music. I’d reco it to anyone in the mood for a cute and flirty smell that makes you excited for summer.

Oh, BTW,  the last time I wrote a post I caught a lot of crap from Lefty and Righty about not including ingredients. So here what’s in it:

Kittenesque ingredients

Mandarin, raspberry, blackberry, peach, orange blossom, jasmine, honeysuckle, hazelnut, sandalwood, Tonka bean, vanilla.

And here’s my disclaimer: Of course I got a free sample of this perfume. Why else would I blog about it? Don’t get me wrong, this stuff smells GREAT but it’s not exactly like there’s a lot of science to explain about it.

@Sarah: Seriously? This was a post?

Plus, you seem to mixing up our “Look at the Label” series where we break down the ingredients in a given product. The “In the Bathroom” series is just a place for us to share new product news.

However, if you are going to list ingredients for a fragrance please try to be a little more accurate. The “ingredients” you provided are just the fragrance notes. These are not actual chemicals but just a description of how the product smells.

Here are the actual ingredients listed on the package:
Alcohol denat, Kittenesque fragrance, water, galaxolide, benzyl salicylate, butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane, limonene, coumarin, tocopherol, linalool, benzyl benzoate, citral, benzyl alcohol, citronellol.

Note that most of these chemicals are fragrance allergens which, by law, must be provided.

Stop whining Righty, it could have been a lot worse. I could’ve just copied what they say on their website: “Flirt with your wild side wearing this playful blend of fruity and vanilla scents. Frisky, flirty, Kittenesque.”

@Sarah: Your point about Kittenesque being a fragrance so “it’s not exactly like there’s a lot of science to explain about it” is really a misconception. The average fragrance has between 100 and 200 different chemical components. Compare that to a typical skin lotion or shampoo which contains, at most, two dozen ingredients. The chemistry of fragrances is actually quite complex.

Meh. You guys take this waaaay too seriously.

Except for the hazelnut note (personal opinion only,) this sounds like a great perfume. Thanks for sharing it with us!!

But what’s the deal with the family feud, guys? Sure, the “ingredient list” seemed a little silly the first time I read through it, but it really was JUST a simple perfume post. Would you expect Sarah to write about the finer points of the color wheel if she were doing a review of a shade matching foundation!?

Eh. Screw it. It’s not my fight anyway.

@LittleBird: Thanks for watching my back! Sometimes Lefty and Righty are a little overly touchy. But as long as you, and everyone else, are enjoying the posts that’s all that matters to me!

This has really piqued my curiosity; though perfume’s so personal, feels like TMI on choices in underwear. So… if you’ll excuse the impertinence… what do Left Brain and Right Brain wear? Fans of (e)au naturel(le)? Or are you on a lifelong quest to find the most recherché, sophisticated, chemically-complex scent in existence?

With apologies for nosiness. And bad puns.

@Ginger: Good luck getting Lefty and Righty to open up about their product choices!
