EltaMD Ingredients
Zinc Oxide (9.0%), Octinoxate (7.5%)
Despite scare stories to the contrary, zinc oxide this is still a safe sunblock ingredients. Octinoxate is good for UVB only.
Purified Water
As you can see from the first ingredient this is a water-based lotion.
Cyclomethicone
This volatile silicone helps the product spread evenly across the skin and then evaporates to give a dry finish. Interestingly this product is free from oils that you see in many sunscreens.
Niacinamide
This vitamin is included at the very high level of 5% which could help even skin tone.
Octyldodecyl Neopentanoate, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer
These ingredients are emulsifiers and thickeners that stabilize the emulsion.
Polyisobutene
This is a hydrocarbon material that mimics the properties of silicone. It is typically used in place of dimethicone to smooth skin and lock in moisture.
PEG-7 Trimethylolpropane Coconut Ether
Another emulsifier.
Sodium Hyaluronate
A water binding material.
Tocopheryl Acetate
Vitamin E is typically used that such low levels that it doesn’t do much for skin.
Lactic Acid
This acid could be present to balance the pH or if enough is in the formula it could have some exfoliating and moisturizing benefits.
Oleth-3 Phosphate
Yet another emulsifier.
Phenoxyethanol, Butylene Glycol, Iodopropynyl
Preservatives
Triethoxycaprylylsilane
A coating for zinc oxide particles to help with suspension and dispersion.
