Elana asks…Why sodium lauryl sulfate is in my night cream designed for face? I do understant why they put it in shampoos, shower gels or face cleansers. But why on earth would they use it in a cream intended for staying on my face all night long? I am kind of freaking about it now.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS for short) is a high foaming anionic surfactant and is most often used in cleansing products like you mentioned above. However, it may be found in creams and lotions because it also used as part of emulsifying waxes or polymer suspensions. At low levels like that, there’s probably no reason to freak out.
However, given that SLS can be irritating (especially when left in contact with the skin) and that there are a a wide range of other emulsifiers available, there’s really no need for this ingredient in a cream. If you ask me, that’s just sloppy formulating.

This stuff is just horrible for my skin. Even a few minutes of contact is enough to cause acne breakouts. Not talking about night cream but SLS
