HistoryDork asks…I love styling my hair but it seems when I use hairspray (even the kind that is for thick hair) it seems my style always lets me down. So is there way for thick hair to stay just as i styled it or is it just science fiction?
The Right Brain responds:
That’s a tough question to answer because it depends on what kind of style you’re trying to achieve. If you’re trying to keep your hair straight, hair spray, gels and mousses can be pretty effective especially when used with heat styling tools.
But if your hair is very thick and heavy and you’re looking for a high degree of tight curl retention then you’re likely to be disappointed. Look for hairsprays that do not contain water. They do a better job holding your hair because they don’t cause curl droop. (Water containing hair sprays cause curl to relax as soon as they make contact with the hair. That’s because the hydrogen bonds that hold the curl are reset by water.) Tresemme is one good example a water free hairspray.

I wish I had thick hair my is very fine and it looks limp and gets oily looking easy. I think we should all try to be grateful for what we have. I can’t help having fine hair since I have Dutch heritage but I wish I had the dark thick on the Acadian side!
