Jenianis asks…Are there any products that will help with skin sagging? I do not have lines or wrinkles but my collagen has begun to deplete and my skin is beginning to sag. I would love to have the fullness and tautness back in my cheeks and under-eyes.
The Right Brain replies:
I wish there was an easy answer for you.
Can you really restore collagen?
As Lindygirl pointed out in the Forum discussion that prompted this question, most super expensive creams and lotions are a waste of money. You could try collagen nutritional supplements; there’s some evidence that shows if you ingest a few grams of collagen a day it can boost collagen levels in the skin. You can also see a dermatologist about micro-needling which has been shown to boost collagen levels.
Then there’s the 2009 study (Journal of Society of Cosmetic Chemistry, Skin collagen reproduction increased by ascorbic acid derivative iontophoresis. 2009, Vol 60) that showed that topical Vitamin C, applied with mild electric current, can increase skin collagen levels. This could be the kind of breakthrough that we’ve all been looking for but I haven’t seen it commercialized anywhere yet.

First time I’m hearing about this kind of treatment. I’m a big fan of products that uses retinol(Vitamin A). A study was conducted at the University of Michigan that showed Vitamin A lotion to be an effected way of producing new collagen.
There’s also some studies that show Vitamins E and C are really important for new collagen production in skin.
I’m a beauty therapist and I have been working with a French skincare brand GUINOT. In our Hydradermie treatment we use iontophoresis to infuse the skin with active ingredients, vitamins etc. One of the gels we use contains vitamin C. It’s primarily for lightening, but I have been using it on clients concerned with sagging and results have been great. not sure if its the Ascorbic acid form of vit C though.
How many grams exactly should we ingest?. Thanks
