Last month we talked about the new Paul Mitchell Curls Collection and how their approach to consumer research was a refreshing change of pace from the way cosmetic companies usually create new products. Their social media “put the consumer first” approach has led to the development of four new products: Spring Loaded Detangling Shampoo, Full Circle Leave-In Treatment, and Ultimate Wave and Twirl Around stylers.

Later this month the entire line will be available for purchase at salon near you so we thought we’d take a look at the ingredients in each of these new products starting with the shampoo.

Spring Loaded Detangling Shampoo ingredients

Water (Eau, Aqua), Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, Glycerin, Cocamide MEA, Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate, Myristamidopropyl PG-Dimonium Chloride Phosphate, Glycol Distearate, Laureth-4, PEG-120 Methyl Glucose Dioleate, Divinyldimethicone/Dimethicone Copolymer, C12-13 Pareth-23, C12-13 Pareth-3, Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate, Polyquaternium-7, Polyquaternium-59, Butylene Glycol, Amodimethicone, C11-15 Pareth-7, Laureth-9, Trideceth-12, Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Phenyl Trimethicone, Polyquaternium-67, Tetrasodium EDTA, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Magnesium Nitrate, Magnesium Chloride, Fragrance (Parfum), Limonene

The shampoo contains zero sulfates and claims to create zero frizz. This is an important departure for Paul Mitchell because their previous shampoos have been based on sodium laureth sulfate and myreth sulfate. That means this new product should theoretically be less drying to hair and scalp.  In addition, the formula contains no less than 7 different conditioning agents to ensure it lives up to its claims of  ”zero frizz.”

So is this more of a cleansing conditioner like Wen? Or does it just contain a lot of conditioning agents?

@Chica: Think of it as a shampoo with conditioning ingredients, more like a mild two in one rather than a cleansing conditioner.
