Jan Marini Bioglycolic Face Cleanser: In the Beauty Brains Bathroom

There has been plenty written about the benefits of using glycolic acid facial cleansers. Basically they help your skin renew itself and keep your pores from getting plugged up. Jan Marini’s new Bioglycolic Face Cleanser is a creamy concoction that contains not only glycolic acid but also sorbitol to help condition your skin. It’s described as “gentle” and so I was a bit surprised to find it also contains the relatively harsh Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate (ALS) as a cleansing agent.

There’s nothing wrong with ALS (or its cousin Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) per se but since glycolic acid can be irritating to skin I would have expected to see it paired with the mildest surfactants possible. (Like Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate. ) Maybe there’s a technical reason that I’m not aware of for choosing ALS but I would have expected more from a $30 product.

Jan Marini Bioglycolic Face Cleanser Ingredients

Water/Aqua/Eau, Glycolic Acid, Sorbitol, Stearyl Alcohol, Cetyl Alcohol, Ammonium Hydroxide, Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, Methylparaben, Propylparaben

How to get free beauty products

Step 1: create an insanely popular blog about beauty. (Just to be different, make it a blog about beauty science.)

Step 2: Wait for Public Relations companies to discover you and start inundating you with offers to try the latest and greatest products.

Step 3: Sit back and watch the free beauty swag roll in.

But until you’ve completed all three of these steps you should BE VERY CAREFUL HOW YOU SPEND YOUR MONEY. Just because we blog about a product doesn’t mean you have to run out and buy it. Remember, we get this stuff for free. You should talk to other people, do your own research, and then decide if a product is worth your hard earned money. End of disclaimer.

Are they stupid they cant even get something that basic right? It shouldnt be difficult to use a gentle cleanser when a product has an irritating acid!

Do the Brains have a cleanser they recommend? My skin is normal and can be sensitive. I need something that will remove makeup and also help with the acne breakouts I’ve been getting lately. I think they are from all the sweating I’ve been doing on the stairmaster.
I appreciate any product recommendations!

@Lauren: If you’re looking for a cleanser that is good for sensitive skin, look for one that lists SODIUM COCOYL ISETHIONATE as one of the first 3 o4 4 ingredients. (Murad Renewing Cleanser is one example.)

I use Jan Marini products and I really like this cleanser, my face looks healthier and I don’t get break outs anymore.

I use Aquaglycolic brand cleanser. It’s said to be a less expensive version of the Jan Marini. I love it myself, and I have somewhat reactive skin. It does make a difference with brightness and smoothness of my skin and my pores stay clear too. I use it every other morning and leave it on my face for a few minutes like a mini-mask.
Here are the ingredients:
Purified Water, Glycolic Acid, Ammonium Glycolate, Cetyl Alcohol, Ammonium Laureth Sulfate, Sorbitol, Stearyl Alcohol, Methyparaben, Propylparaben.
