Bach Rescue Remedy: Look at the Label

WOW. I was surprised to that Bach Rescue Remedy is the 4th best selling beauty product on Amazon.com this week. Why does that surprise me? Because it’s the only homeopathic remedy that I’ve seen obtain such a coveted position.

Homeopathic remedies supposedly work by diluting active ingredients to a very low level. This product uses 1/50 dilution of the ingredients.  There’s Rock Rose for terror and panic, Impatiens for irritation and impatience, Clematis for inattentiveness, Star of Bethlehem for shock and Cherry Plum for irrational thoughts. Even if these ingredients do have some pharmacological activity, they are diluted almost to the point of non-existence. Thank you for helping educate people about what Homeopathic remedies really are. When I discuss the subject with friends, they often think Homeopathic means “natural” or “organic”, when it’s basically just a placebo that contains too little of any active ingredient to actually do anything.

For more information on the “science” behind Homeopathy, I recommend this link: http://www.quackwatch.org/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/homeo.html

This is has no value beyond the marketing, it cost way less to make than what they sell it for. I find it offensive as someone who suffers from mental illness that it makes many claims on curing various aspects of mental illness. Sorry psychiatrists go to school 12 years to be able to do that.

I’ve used Rescue Remedy both for myself and for my dog’s fear of flying, to good results. It’s a mild sedative, and it worked for me.

According to their web site, Rescue Remedy is a 5x dilution of the key ingredients. Using the dilution formula from the Quackwatch link I posted above, this means that Rescue Remedy is actually a 1/100,000 dilution and not 1/50. With that level of dilution — one part of active ingredient for every 100,000 parts of water — it’s hard to believe that this product produces anything more than a placebo effect.

Beauty Brains: feel free to correct me if my math is off.

never worked for my lhasa apso, never worked for me.

Thanks, I knew I had the general idea but I didn’t realize the dilution was so much greater than I thought.

Learned about this in school. Crazy that it’s basically nothing at all. And people pay money for homeopathic remedies.

I’m very skeptic about everything (that’s why I love this site hehe) but I tried homeopatic treatment to leave my anxious and headaches drugs (lexapro and nortryptilin) and, surprisingly, it worked and I have already left the drugs. There are things that I really can’t understand hahahaha
(Sorry about my possibly weird english hehe)

if people believe something will work, then it will, especially for people who have anxiety and stuff. if putting a drop of rose scented water on their tongues gives them the courage to get out of bed and go to work and be nice to the neighbors, it’s worth it. lots of people can’t afford psychiatrists or just health care in general and if something harmless keeps them from going over the edge or turning into a homeless bag lady, well then, more power to them.

Many people are sceptical about homeopathic treatments and there are certain products that are not worth buying.

However, I agree with joanv above. If its only a placebo effect but it stills helps people, then that is what is important.

The chemical drugs pumped out by big pharma that suppress and block our bodies natural hormones is something far more concerning.
