This Africa’s Best product is a beauty best seller on Amazon this week. Let’s look at the label to see what else it contains besides olive oil.
I’ve copied the ingredient listing directly from the Walgreen’s website (since it wasn’t included on Amazon) and as you can see below it’s a bit of a mess due to improper capitalization and it doesn’t appear to follow the legal labeling requirement of listing ingredients in descending order of concentration (with ingredients below 1% listed in any order.) Therefore it’s tough to estimate how much olive oil it really contains.
I can tell that there are several other ingredients which will provide a conditioning effect including propylene glycol, cetyl alcohol, glycerin, polyquaternium-37, and stearalkonium chloride. Some of these ingredients would normally just rinse away but since this is a leave in product they will help smooth and detangle hair. That’s a good thing because these materials provide benefits that olive oil alone won’t like fighting static flyaway and sticking preferentially to the most damaged spots on hair.
