What’s so bewitching about Hidden Magic hairspray?

Do you remember that episode of Bewitched where Sam accidentally shrunk herself to pixie size and the only way she could reverse the spell was to apply lots and lots of hairspray?

Wait a minute, that wasn’t Bewitched, it was this commercial for Hidden Magic hairspray…

Hidden Magic’s claim to fame was the ingredient “Flexinol” which supposedly maintained your style even after brushing. Flexinol may have been the first polymer designed for brush out application but it certainly was not the most successful. Dissatisfied customers soon found out the product had two rather annoying side effects:

First, if you applied it to hair that had been bleached with hydrogen peroxide it turned green. (Wow, it really is magic!)

Second , if you applied it and then went outside it attracted bees. (You can insert your own joke here about beehive hairdo’s.)

Although the product was reformulated without Flexinol the damage was done and Hidden Magic disappeared forever from the shelves.
