Simple Eye Make-Up Remover Pads – Look at the label

This Simple product is a beauty best-seller on Amazon this week.  Let’s look at the label so see what makes it so simple….

In case you’re not familiar with it, Simple is a brand that is more famous for what it is not than what it is. Specifically they are not any harsh ingredients “that can upset your skin.” Here are the claims from the website:

  • 2 Vital Vitamins: Pro-Vitamin B5 and Vitamin E
  • No Alcohol that can dry your skin
  • No Artificial Perfumes, Dyes, or Harsh Irritants that can upset your skin
  • No Oils – no greasy feeling residue on your skin

A quick look at the ingredient list shows one important way that they live up to their promise. Rather than using anionic cleansing agents which can be irritating they use non-ionic chemicals. Although they don’t foam as much these types of surfactants are known to be much milder to skin. The Cetearyl Isononanoate really makes this more of a cleansing lotion than a typical face wash.

You will also note that even a brand like this which is renowned for using safe and gentle ingredients is not afraid to use methylparaben as a preservative. That’s because the best scientific information to date says this paraben is completely fine when used properly.

I really like this dialogue and would love to see more companies come on here and reply to posts. How they reply is a great indication of their transparency, professionalism, and just how well they know the product they’re selling.
