I ve been looking for a vitamin C serum but most were either too expensive or had low concentration of this vitamin, others had fragrance or irritant ingredients... but I just found the ASDM Beverly Hills Vitamin C serum. According to the manufacturer it contains 15% of magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, 20% hyaluronic acid and some antioxidants.
Ingredients list: De - Ionized water/aqua, Rose Water, 15% Magnesium Ascorbyl Phospate (MAP), 20% hyaluronic acid, Grape seed extract, Green tea extract, Vitamin E, Pure Jojoba Oil, Pure Argan Oil, Honey extract, EDTA, Potassium Sorbate, Optiphen.

30 dollars for 2 ounces seems too good to be truth, unless I can perform some espectrometry technique how would I know if this formula has 15% of MAP and not only 2%?.
Hi Brains,

Something I've been curious about lately is the risk of toluene in Seche Vite top coat, and I was wondering if you could elaborate on it. According to Prop 65, certain products have to be labelled if they pose a health risk, and in particular SV has a label warning potential birth defects if this product is used. You can see the potiential for some people to raise a BIG stink about this already.... :)

My questions are:
1) At what concentrations/volumes does toluene become toxic?
2) Could the amount in SV be dangerous?
3) Is it true toluene cannot be absorbed through the skin as it is non-polar? (ref: boyfriend is in 3rd-year Medicinal Chemistry. However he has not
covered very specific information on toluene as he did not focus on
organic chemistry.) I am asking because toluene absorption through skin is a concern stated by others regarding SV.

Thanks,
padawan

I want to keep my gray roots colored without changing the natural color of my hair. I am a female but have used Just For Men to touch up my gray roots several times. It works well in the sense that I do not have to color all of my hair. I assume that is because the roots get dyed 3 or 4 times before they grow out of the range where I put the color and at that point the color sticks. But at the root itself I find the color fades and shows a little gray at first wash. By the 3rd wash I need to color it again and I want to know how to prevent that. I would like to only have to touch up my roots due to gray regrowth. So I was wondering is there a product out there that is going to stick better to the gray upon first time coloring without lifting color from my brown hair or making the brown darker? I like my dark brown hair and don't want to make any permanent changes to it at all while I try to figure out what shade colors the gray best. Thank you Beauty Brains and Beauty Brains Community for any and all helpful recommendations.

Hiya I was quite intrigued by your article from 2010 on how a glass nano particle shield could be developed to protect the hair. Is this product the real deal if so why is it around so soon and is it effective?

http://hairglass.com/

Or is it just a marketing gimmick? I've stopped using relaxers/straightners in an effort to nuture my hair back to health and embrace an all-around healthier lifestyle. While recently reading an article regarding the "natural hair movement", the author mentioned that cosmetic companies have developed safer relaxers in response to customer demand. I'm not sure how you can make lye "safer" but I'm not a scientist so I'm wondering what the Beauty Brains thinks about that statement.

http://www.amazon.com/Linange-Shea-Butter-Relaxer-15oz/dp/B000VLXMC6

http://www.sallybeauty.com/silk-elements-relaxer/SBS-373600,default,pd.html

http://www.mizani-usa.com/?m=55&rid=300

So in the last few years there have been a number of products on the market that are some type of hybrid gel-polish, requiring curing under either UV or LED lamps. eg. Shellac, Gellish, OPI Gelcolor, Orly GelFX, Gelac etc etc etc... I really like the fact of having an "instant" dry polish (as I am totally the worst at denting my nails as soon as they are done) but it is obviously more expensive. So I am thinking of buying a kit myself, as I have played around with a friend's Shellac kit (she is a nail tech) and realise it is fairly straightforward to apply on yourself.

My question is this: what is the difference between the polishes and why do some require UV where others require LED? If I buy an LED lamp, will that still work on Shellac polishes, which normally use a UV lamp? Or if I buy a UV lamp will this work on the ones that normally use LED? Does the wattage of the lamp make a big difference to the curing time?

Would love to get an answer on this one - in an ideal world I would love to buy just one lamp, but be able to buy a
variety of different brand polishes so I can get all the colours I want -
but want to make sure that the lamp will actually work with the various different polishes?

Hope to hear from you!! Thanks
