I have read that hot water strips away protective oils and cold water can contribute to capillary breakage. I prefer to wash with hot and not splash cold after which some do claiming it closes your pores. Does water temp have any real influence on the size of your pores?

I'd like to know what's your favourite way of getting a tan in the city:
- Fake tan
- Spray tan
- Au natural (on the beach, in the park...)
- Sunbeds

I know there are many options but can't choose which one is the best, any suggestions??
As always I am sceptical about products which claim to make dramatic changes, and am wondering how many people have seen real results with this mascara. I do not understand how it can make lashes become longer and thicker ( other than possibly by conditioning brittle lashes which are in a poor condition to begin with) as I have been taught that all hair growth is pre-determined genetically, and naturally falls out once it's cycle of growth ends. Also, if anyone is looking for a good moisturizer - there's one from Dermagenics.biz. It's a 3 in 1 moisturizer that works really well. I used to use Oil of Olay but my face never felt as soft as I hoped it would. I'm going home for my high school reunion so I decided to try something different.
I'm currently using disposable (and relatively inexpensive) latex-free sponge wedges to apply some of my concealers and foundation. I toss my used wedges after 2-3 applications, having washed after each use.

Recently, I came upon some reviews on Makeup Alley and You Tube, on two new applications tools - the Beauty Blender "egg" and the egg shaped sponge by Sonia Kashuk.

How "safe" are they to use repeatedly and for months (if not more) at a time? Wouldn't they harbor skin-unfriendly bacteria, especially after prolonged use, despite being washed daily?

The Beauty Blender can also be purchased in tandem with a "specially formulated" cleanser that promises to be environmentally friendly as well as not cause skin problems. Is it really necessary to buy "the" cleanser or could regular anti-bacterial soap (which I use for my current wedges) or any other cleanser for that matter, be used?

I just bought a curl scrunching gel during a hair product shopping spree only to get home and noitce "copolymer" listed fairly high up in the ingredients. When I was younger there were ads for pans or something that bragged about using some kind of "space age copolymer coating" which makes me think I should return this stuff. But a gardner friend told me that copolymers retain water, release it slowly throughout the day and help your grass and plants grow without being toxic.

Obviously, I'm not trying to grow grass on my head, I'm just trying to find a way to define very tightly curlly/ coily hair African American hair that is transitioning from relaxed to natural. Should I take it back or is it to my advantage to use it? Are there other ingredients I should look for or avoid for curl defining products? - thanks!

So now a company called Kronos is telling us that they have the secret to turning back the clock on how old our hair looks?

Supposedly they've, "developed something called t-sfere technology, which for the first time ever, allows combined active ingredients to be encapsulated into a microscopic sphere that is so small it can actually penetrate into the hair follicle and hair shaft." The result is a line of "Age Correcting Haircare" that improves things like dryness, limpness and thinness for more youthful hair. They even have an independent study to prove their results! (Queue the fancy electron microscope imagery).

You can check out their claims here: http://www.kronoshair.com/start-main.htm
And here's a spectacular bit of advertorial that first introduced me to this wonder-line: http://howlifeworks.com/health_beauty/kronos/?cid=8088ie

A few days ago I read an article that suggested it may be counterproductive to wash ones face daily, and that people could do just as well just rinsing with water (sorry, I didn't think at the time to save the link!).

I had a quick look at the ingredients of my cleanser from Lush and...I don't think theres a single surfactant in there!

Herbalism: 'Ground Almonds (Prunus dulcis), Kaolin, Glycerine, Chlorophyllin Water (CI 75810, Aqua), Nettle; Rosemary and Rice Vinegar Extract, (Urtica dioica and Rosmarinus officinalis), Rice Bran (Oryza sativa), Gardenia Extract (Gardenia jasminoides), Rose Absolute (Rosa damascena), Chamomile Oil (Anthemis nobilis), Sage Oil (Salvia officinalis), Perfume'

?cording to my web search the only agent that could possibly provide any 'cleansing' is kaolin. But, isn't kaolin is just a fancy name for mud ?
Surprisingly this cleanser has been keeping my face reasonably clear of spots for the past 6 months and my skin never feels tight.

So, my two questions are :
1)could it be that washing one's face is a pointless exercise?
2)is the 'herbalism' concoction any kind of 'cleanser' at all , or just an unsophisticated mild exfoliator?

Being pimple prone I'm always looking for a way to deal with them. I had found in the past that the absolute best way was these little vacuums I picked up at the dollar store. After awhile, however, they lost suction.
Searching online I found this - http://acne-pimples-suction-yourself.com/
It seems like it should work to me, but the website almost looks like a hoax. Do you think it would work? Especially on areas like the neck and chest?

Hi Beauy Brains!

I would like to know if it is still necessary to apply primer before putting on my makeup, especially since I always use a face moisturiser and sunscreen beforehand. Isn't a sunscreen good enough to be a makeup base?

Thanks alot!

Regards,

Hi,I am a new member and was so happy to find a site that helps me find out exactly what s in all the stuff I have spent so much money buying and slathering upon myself.
I am curious to know exactly what long term Urea use will do to my face.I use my 20% urea on my face every night and have been doing so for about three months.
I have noticed a difference in my worry lines and the fine lines around my eyes.My questions are;what will this do to the skin on my face in the long term?is it safe to use around my eyes?Is there hormones in it?(i am aware of where it may be derived from, but how would I know if its synthetic?)
If I couple this with glycerin(the label says BP,so I imagine its a by product of something,I know its not vegetable derived)is it dangerous?am I playng mad scientist with the skin on my face?
It feels and looks so good, the pores are finer, lines plumped out but I need to know if I will eventually glow in the dark or thin my skin out beyong repair ?thanks

Ok. So I am wondering what ingredients exactly "weigh your hair down"?

I have fine hair and I know that some products feel like they leave my hair limp more than others, but why?

Sometimes I read reviews of products and people will say "this weighs my hair down so much" and other people will say "this product is so light, doesn't weigh down my hair at all" ... about the same product! I don't get it.

I'm getting married in 2 months so hunting down a waterproof mascara is a must. That's all I normally wear anyways but still have trouble with it getting under my eyes by the end of the night. I know to look for a formula with water listed as far from the first ingredient as possible, but what other ingredients should I look for to ensure it won't budge? I'm getting the impression mascara is mascara from the similar ingredients of high end vs "cheap" mascara but is their really a significant difference making it worth wild? I'm looking for the most objective way of finding the best.
