I tought I had combination skin, with oily T-zone, but after changing up my routine i found out it to be dry (so it was overcompensating with sebum).
"Common sense" question

Being a sociologist, I'm always skeptical about what we consider to be "common sense". Common sense means that we should know what it is because everyone knows that it's true, but it may not always be true. For example, it used to be "common sense" that Native Americans and blacks were just simply genetically inferior to everyone, or women simply didn't have the brain capacity to vote.

With cosmetics, it seems to be common sense to throw out a mascara after 3 months or a foundation after 6. Is this true or is a marketing scheme to get us to buy more products? I usually toss out stuff if they smell bad, but is there a set deadline of when you should throw something out? Does it matter if a product is in a jar or a pump? Does a pump make the product more "hygienic" or does it just play off today's Lysol culture?

I realize this may all sound like common sense questions, but sometimes I feel it is important to reevaluate our assumptions and see if they are true in the first place!

Do the Beauty Brains only look at cosmetic products, or do they also look at weight loss supplements as well? If so, I have one for them! It's called Sensa, where the users are supposed to sprinkle these tasteless, odorless crystals onto their food, which helps them stimulate the "sensory-specific satiety" - or makes your brain feel full.

The thing is, though, is that they claim to be odorless, yet their own chart says that the odors from the product "enhance" your food and make your olfactory nerves signal your hypothalamus that you're full!

Does any of this make sense? I feel like I'm answering my own question here, but I'd like to see what the Beauty Brains think of this one.

There's a hype about a product called Eumora. Essentially, it just a facial bar with heilmoor clay ingredient in it. I never hear about that clay until recently. The girls using it rant in many forums and blogs about how good this facial bar is. Although it's an expensive facial bar (about $100 for full size bar, but you could buy smaller size), they said that it can replace their daily routine skincare and end many skin's problems (acne, wrinkles, etc). So in their opinions, it's not expensive at all.

For me, it's just to good to be true. I mean, c'mon. A facial bar? And what make me curious is how simple this products works. Just lather it in your face for three minutes a day, and then after around one month, you'll get a fresh radiant skin. But there's a downside of this. There will be healing crisis This is the period that the bar is trying to heal out skin. Some will experience peeling, outbreak, dryness, etc. Most will be mild which last from weeks to even month. I frown at this. It doesn't sound right to me. But maybe this is normal?

I'm sorry that it such a long question. But I'm curious about this and I hate to see my friends spend their money for something that maybe just another marketing's hype.

By the way, this is their website

There is a new product rave over at acne.org and I was wondering what the brains thought of it. It's called Intense Gel R-ALA from Pure Deming. It is suppose to help fade the appearance of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Here's the link to the acne.org thread - http://www.acne.org/messageboard/Recommended-Products-R-t14887.html

Here's the product website - http://puredeming.com/products/treatments.html

The ingredients are as follows:

Is packed with Certified Organic Jojoba, Manuka Honey, Deionized Water, Natural Alpha Lipoic Acid (RALA), DMAE, Vitamin C, Tocomin [Natural D mixed Tocotrierols], Pomegranate Extract, Acai Berry, Organic Cranberry Extract, Pure Essential & Fragrance Oils, Optiphen Plus [a paraben free preservative].

Can this be the miracle cure for acne scars? Also, the acne.org forum members are talking about a warming/burning sensation upon applying this. What could cause this? Will this serum harm or help the skin?

Recently i read an article saying that "Essential oils may become allergenic on contact with oxygen in the air and certain skin enzymes, according to recent research.", so what about essentiel oils from Decleor or Darphin which costs a bomb for 15ml? Does that means that they are just useless??

I am a 25 year old female with extremely dry skin. I have no visible signs of aging, and currently use jojoba and coconut oil as a moisturizer. They both have anti-aging properties.

I don't know much about retinols- just that they are proven wrinkle fighters. When should I begin to use them? Will they prevent wrinkles?

Thank you!

The Brains blogged how water alone is the greatest threat to colored hair. So- does using a color-safe shampoo really matter? Will it prevent fading any more than a regular shampoo? What about those color-care shampoos that are sulfate-free?
