I would say no, since I thought Time-released just means W/O/W or O/W/O emulsions and that by putting another emulsion it would have little to no effect on the Retin-A since the emulsifiers wouldn't interfere with it? But then I start thinking that due to penetration of the Moist it will be a shield for the Retinoids (which are time released) to penetrate the deeper layers of the skin?

If it does what others say it does, it would make my hair so much better. But, it is way out of my price range. This has also been true for other great beauty products. I know that frequently other companies develop a version of an expensive new ingredient, and make it available in less-expensive products.
Hi to all!

I have always been interested in incorporating tea tree oil into the products that I use. However, there seem to be a dearth of products that contain 5% tea tree oil. Therefore, the only other alternative would be to dilute 100% pure tea tree oil to a lower concentration.

Basic calculations aside, I would like to ask what kind of materials should I use to contain my diluted tea tree oil concoction in? I understand that the best materials are opaque ceramics/glass containers, but what about synthetic materials such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polypropylene and polystyrene etc.?

Because tea tree oil can potentially dissolve some materials, the last thing I would want is applying trace amount of "plastic" monomers on my face.

Thanks!

A lot of people use hair dyes (synthetics or the plant-based stuff like henna both) to cover grey hair. And a lot of times, people complain about how resistant grey hair is to taking up dye. Is there any truth to this, and if so, why might it be the case?

IS grey hair more dye-resistant, or is it just that the vivid absence of pigment means that the dye is already starting from less-than-zero and hence will turn out weaker?

IF grey hair is more dye-resistant, why might this be the case? I'd have imagined that, with NO pigment in the hair shaft to nuke, it seems to indicate that you should be able to dye it any color you pleased since it's almost like having your hair come right out of your head in stage two of a double-process color.

Any wisdom to impart, BB? Have there been any studies done of the efficacy of hair dyes or stains on grey hair as opposed to blond, red, black, or brown?

Could you guys help me figure out what's up with my old contact solution?

When I first got soft contacts a couple years ago, my eye doctor recommended I use Clear Care contact solution. It's based on hydrogen peroxide, so it's supposed to kill all the little germies that get in there. The contacts go in this special case with little lens cages, then into the solution filled to the fill line. I used it every day.

A couple times, I would try to put in my contacts in the morning, only to find that more than half the solution was gone, and my contacts withered and ruined. There was no sign of a puddle around the case. I mentioned it to my eye doctor, and she had never heard of this happening. She said to cut back to using it once a month or so, so I did.

But it happened again! I follow the directions, I fill to the line, I leave it for the requisite 6 hours, and I wake up to contacts that have wavy edges and sting when I put them in my eye no matter how long I soak them in a regular saline solution afterward.

I checked the Internet. There's no reports of this happening to anyone else, and no number to call Clear Care customer service. I use silica hydrogel lenses (Accuvue Oasys, if that helps.) I'm not going to buy it again, but I'm just so curious.

Help me, Beauty Brains! You're my only hope!
Now, I know your motto is natural does not equal good, and synthetic does not equal bad... but I'd really like to know what you think about this book. I've read the book a couple times and the author seems to have been thorough in her research. She does own her own organic skincare line, though, so I know I should be suspicious of her possible bias. It would be great to hear your take on her book and the research/studies she cites in it, and even her skincare line if possible.
Thanks!

I've heard that PTFE is actually teflon, which Olay put in their products. Apparently, it's toxic and carcinogenic I read one review, in fact, by a lady from theecologist.com who claimed that PTFE was being dubbed as the "new DDT". Do you have any idea why a company would put telfon in a skin care cream? And if so, is it as dangerous as I've heard?

Hi! A while back I read an article about an "innovative" new hair product called "No Frizz" by Living Proof. The article stated that this product was an amazing new anti-frizz product for hair, silicone-free, that works better than anything else before. They use something called "PolyfluoroEster". I was wondering, from an ingredients standpoint, what the brains think of this product? It's so expensive and I want to be sure nothing else exists like this on the market (for cheaper) before I spend the big bucks. Thanks!
