I have been reading a lot of criticisms lately of how pink ribbon makeup and perfume are full of the very chemicals that will give you breast cancer. Why is there so much finger pointing at things such as cosmetics and so little innovative research being done? I think it is very inflammatory and offensive to breast cancer survivors to tell them that the beauty companies are out to kill them and insulting to cosmetic chemists as if they are out to cause this disease. I wonder what the beauty brains thoughts are on this it seems to be everywhere these days.
http://thinkbeforeyoupink.org/?page_id=1627
http://safecosmetics.org/article.php?id=749
This is ridiculous. I dont think survivors of this cancer should basically be blamed and have people tell them if they didnt wear makeup or deodorant they would have never got it. Maybe you are a survivor or know someone who is that has been stressed out and thinking the things they eat and clean themselves with are going to hurt them or kill them. I have a neighbor who is an older lady my brother and her grandson went to their cottage on the lake and on the boat and she wouldnt let them use sunblock the whole time and my brother was outside for 8 hrs or more and he was a red tomato my dad was pissed. She says only the organic stuff doesnt cause cancer but she doesnt have it so she thought it was better to let two 9 year olds get a really bad cause of sunburn.

Hi Brains,

Something I've been curious about lately is the risk of toluene in Seche Vite top coat, and I was wondering if you could elaborate on it. According to Prop 65, certain products have to be labelled if they pose a health risk, and in particular SV has a label warning potential birth defects if this product is used. You can see the potiential for some people to raise a BIG stink about this already.... :)

My questions are:
1) At what concentrations/volumes does toluene become toxic?
2) Could the amount in SV be dangerous?
3) Is it true toluene cannot be absorbed through the skin as it is non-polar? (ref: boyfriend is in 3rd-year Medicinal Chemistry. However he has not
covered very specific information on toluene as he did not focus on
organic chemistry.) I am asking because toluene absorption through skin is a concern stated by others regarding SV.

Thanks,
padawan

Hey Beauty Brains community:

I've noticed an recent increase in posts like "7 Tips for Pulling off Hot Pink Lips" and while this type of "tips" posts may be helpful I'm worried that they don't really fit with what we're trying to offer you guys. (Which is an open discussion on how products really work.) There are plenty of other places you can get this kind of information. And, frankly, these Forum discussions feel spammy to me. (I hope I'm not offending any of the posters, but they really do.)

Therefore, effective immediately, we won't be allowing these posts in the Forum any longer. The users who have been posting these are welcome to stay and join in the other discussions but if they continue to post "tips" I'll have to delete their accounts.

I hope you understand our reasons for this change. Feel free to leave your comments whether you agree or disagree. As always it's your input that makes this Forum successful.

Been seing 'Propylene glycol free' on a lot of products lately together with 'paraben free' and 'mineral oil free'. Googled it to see what's so harmful about it and here http://www.natural-health-information-centre.com/propylene-glycol.html found 'The Material Safety Data
Sheet warns users to avoid skin contact with
propylene glycol as this strong skin irritant can
cause liver abnormalities and kidney damage'. I searched on beautybrains and breautybrains forum to see if any articles come up but most results were other articles discussing ingredients of products that had propylene glycol in it. If anyone could shed some light on the issue, would be much appreciated.
