You'll all be glad to know that the scientists of the world are hard at work, answering all questions from the ridiculous to the sublime. All of them got me thinking (except for the intelligent slime mold; I prefer not to think about that) but the most thought provoking was that expensive placebos are more effective than cheap placebos. I thought about all of our discussions about high priced vs. low priced skin care products and wondered if there's a placebo effect involved in skin care products that are supposed to "do something" other than cleanse or moisturize. I think we all agree that the more you spend on a product, the more likely you are to believe it works but do you suppose that there's a placebo effect? I wonder if someone who's given a basic moisturizer but told it's a full-strength retin-A cream will get the results you'd expect with a retin-A cream and they'll get even better results if they're given an expensive basic moisturizer.
Or maybe you'd rather talk about what a pain in the neck armadillos are if you happen to be an archaeologist.

Hi,

I have never used any facial cleansing cloths & would like to know about Dove/Olay cleansing cloths for sensitive skin.
Does anybody know if they are more gentle or clean better than a Cetaphil Gentle cleanser? How are the Olay/Dove Foaming cleansers for Sensitive skin?

I have been using Cetaphil Daily Facial cleanser for oily skin but it dried my face to death. Then I switched to Cetaphil Gentle cleanser but it leaves a film on my face.
I have coimbination skin & cant use anything with fragrance or harsh ingredients.

I wonder if cleansing cloths were so great, companies that specialize in sensitive skin care (Cetaphil, Cerave, Vanicream) would have introduced one.
Please let me know if the cloths are worth a shot.

I know I have wasted a many of dollars trying colors that just were not made for me. I’ve been having sensitive oily skin which resulted in acne all over my face ever since I was a teenager and no matter what I did to my face, nothing seemed to help at all. Imagine my surprise when I chanced upon Rosa T and gave it a go. I could see immediate improvements within days of usage. Never have I been so satisfied or amazed by any beauty products before! Before I left for England, I purchased as much as my luggage could carry. I recommend anyone with sensitive skin and acne problem to try Rosa T. It can be purchased online nowadays at http://www.acne-treatment.cc.

After reading something on this website about how shampooing more than 2 or 3 times a week isn't really good for your hair, and being an everyday shampoo girl myself for my entire life, I've decided I'm going to take the plunge and spend the next few weeks training my scalp to be okay with this major cutback. However, I've tried cutting back before and always go back to shampooing everyday because 1) I must still blow dry and flat iron my wavy hair everyday to get it to look good, and therefore use straightening/heat protection products on it and 2) just warm water rinsing on days I'm not shampooing does not get rid of the product from the previous day. Has anyone discovered a way around this problem? Thanks so much for the help!

Hello,

I have been reading this website lot, including the forum, and one of the thing that seems to come up a lot is Acne. Now I am a very lucky girl it seems since I am don't have it, have never really had it. The only thing I have are blackheads around my chin and some spot, and some spots around period time but certainly not what I would call acne.
Anyway, I wanted to know if there would be a correlation between using extensive products against acne, and covering up with make up and acne itself?
As you might have read in the Introduce yourslef post, I do not wear much make up ( usually my eyes, but very rarely my face, and I never use a foundation ( absolutely hate the feeling of that on my face). I would use powder ( I treated myself to some Guerlain meteorites some time ago ( and I am starting to stress about bacterias in it!) )but that's all.
Now we(you)'ve been talking extensively about mineral oil that don't let the skin breathe, and I was wondering if wearing foundation ( but not obviously with mineral oil, just anything that would cover and prevent your skin from breathing properly) when you have acne doesn't make it worse.
It's just that I am feeling quite sad ( and I certainly don't mean that in a patronising way) to read that so many of you are having this problem, while so many of you are using everything you could to prevent outbreak, hence why I am wondering if they're related.

The only time when I had problem with my skin, I used a facesoap from living nature and that cleared it all, but they have now changed the formula and I can't see that results I used to so I stopped using it and it's well expensive too.

Anyway I wanted to know what you thought about this. Might be a crap thread to be honest, but I really was wondering about this.

Thanks

Aurelie

PS: the link is in case you were wondering where I got that from. Also if you Google Burd Poo + cosmetics, you get loads of results. http://www.metro.co.uk/news/article.html?in_article_id=50826&in_page_id=34
Bird poo used for beauty face mask Monday, May 28, 2007 While millions of women are snapping up age-defying skin creams, the latest miracle cure for a sagging face has just arrived – nightingale poo. The bird droppings, applied in a 90- minute facial, are packed with an enzyme called guanine – an amino acid which heals the skin, experts claim.
I have a horrible time with my nails. When ever I start using nail polish and removers on my nails they self destruct and peel off in sheets. I e-mailed Ji Baek, owner of Rescue Beauty Lounge, about my nail problems. I bought her book, rescue your nails, but it did not address peeling nails. I was amazed when she responded almost immediately. After explaining the problem to her, this is what she recommended.

Hi there,
All the vitamins and supplements you are taking excellent care.
When you file do you use long strokes?-you should file them in gentle long strokes. How long do you keep nails?
Can you keep them short with nail polish?
Here is my suggestion.
Some nails from your DNA are naturally weak therefore it peels and breaks when it's too long.
I would keep it short and try the nail polish on for five days take it off give it a rest for two days and continue. If this does not solve the problem....
Switch to different brand of nail polish remover. If that does not work...
Try with base coat and a top coat only, if your nails does not peel than its the nail polish color formula.
We need to isolate what causes it. Let me know how it goes and hope this helped.
Have a great fourth!
Ji Baek

I know Karen has a similar problem with her nails, and others may too. I thought this information would be helpful.

After reading Baek's book, and corresponding with her on the internet, I would not hesitate at all about going to one of her salons. Talk about customer service! She must be very busy running her salons, yet she took the time to not only read my e-mails, but to respond to them almost immediately. You can tell from her e-mail that she really cares about her customers. I just wish she had a salon in Washington.

Can’t get into the discussions about this for some reason so starting my own! Yes the Pink Patch seems to be doing something and I am a 46 year old "I don’t do diets kinda gal!" But lately I have been feeling a little old and miserable, so thought the diet needed to be looked at, but I own four companies, and don’t have time to breath let alone think about what food I am eating (or not eating regularly) so thought I would have a go with these pink patches. Six days in. 5lbs off. HAVE NOT CHANGED A THING ABOUT WHAT I AM EATING! but definitely not as hungry in the evening, so the portions reduced easily - and I have more energy it seems, so I am not sitting slumped in front of the telly stuffing my face.

Yes - I have been thinking that I could be sticking normal plasters on my arms, and my head is telling me that they are working, but again - I am a no nonsense person - and I don’t believe in fad diets - so I will report back to you all and let you know whether it was all coincidence or not!

As for Beauty regimes - don’t laugh at this - I have clear skin - Redhead - no spots - and my 18 year old daughter escaped the acne stage too - our secret? Johnson’s Baby Wipes to take our make up off, and to cleanse our face, and then moisturise with a good expensive cream such as Lancôme. Nothing else at all. My mum swore by this as well right up until she passed away last year aged 82 and always had people commenting on how young she looked.

Hi E1, absolutely new to this forum and u alls seem so knowledgeable, so hopefully i can get some much needed and desperate advice.
So here's my situation>

I am looking to dye my
eyebrows. I have done some research and
this is what i have gathered. One should not use hair dyes when dying the
eyebrows. If the dye gets into your eyes, it could cause serious damages.
Hair dye products contain chemicals that could be hazardous to your health.
When looking for any hair color dyes, look for products that dont contain
peroxides or ammonia. Vaseline should be put around the eyebrow but not on it in case u get some of the dye/developer paste on it (this will make it much easier to clean)
Semi-permanent will wash away after 13 washes whereas permanent will take much longer washes to get rid off (as the dye has penetrated the roots)
I am basically looking to dye my eyebrows but not something that is
permamnent. (I would like to go back to my natural color after a month or
so) I would like to see if it is the right color, first and foremost, and
if it is something that suits me. ( in my mind i like it, but physically
it just may not look right and may feel uncomfortable) I have to be able to
wash it off if it is something i decide i no longer want.
I was thinking of doing a test run>>> (a) either on my legs since there is lots of hair there and it will not be noticeable if it is in fact something i dont want or
using some of the hair from my haircut, dying it , then apply it to some tape put it around/close to my eyebrows and seeing if it is a go or no-go!
Lastly i know one shouldnt do this on there own but yes i was going to do this solo in front of the mirror. I saw a brief video where they
had Bobbe Joy show you how to dye ones eyebrow. I think she said (or maybe it came from some website I read from) you should be seated NOT on your back
but leaning back on an angle, eyes should be relaxed and closed. This makes sense, since you dont want dye in your eyes...but the paste will be thick when
you apply it to your eyebrows and with the vaseline surrounding your eyebrows too, i dont see why you cant do this sitting in front of the mirror.
Also, how do you go back to your natural colour??
Anyways, how
should i go about this.
Thanks for any tips or advice,

Wearing makeup while working out?

I've read a couple of product reviews on epinions and other boards where the reviewers say the product stays on great while exercising or working out. I'm not sure I understand why they would wear makeup during exercise. It does seem like a good test, though. If it can stand up to sweat running in rivulets down your face, then I guess it can stand up to just about anything.

Do you wear makeup while working out? Doesn't it run during a vigorous workout, or come off when you're toweling the sweat off? I'm a notorious "sleeve wiper", you know, where you wipe your forehead on your upper sleeve/shoulder area? I would have makeup smeared all over my workout clothes if I wore anything while working out. And I'm pretty sure I've read that working out while wearing makeup can clog your pores. Thoughts?

Nightly moisturizing for acne prone skin?

I'm almost 22, and have been using pro activ/pro activ knockoffs since high school, which have worked quite well. My problem is: after using my acne treatment at night, I am always wary of moisturizing, worrying that it will make my acne treatment ineffective and possibly lead to a pimple or two by morning (since, after all, benzoyl peroxide dries out the skin as part of the way it works, right?). As a result, I only moisturize in the mornings, which probably isn't very good for my dry skin. Is my fear grounded in fact? Or would moisturizing not effect anything?

In addition, I'm beginning to suspect I'm not as acne prone as I was when I was younger, so I'm looking to switch to something different, something a bit milder and less drying and I was also hoping to get suggestions for what may be good.

Thanks for the help!!
