I have had several friends purchase the pricey product and would love to get your opionion if the advertising claims are true. I especially hear the ads on urban radio spots. Do their products really help your hair grow? Or is the products I use for my transitioning hair just as good? Any insight would be great before I waste my money!

Should I use powder on my hair?

Because I'm at the end of my rope.
Now keep in mind my mom is a retired beautiction - however she did work in the 50s and 60s. She's also the cause of my problem.
I took over coloring my hair and like to experiment with different shades of blonde. No matter what the shade I always do my roots a slightly darker shade then the rest. To me this looks natural - roots come out dark and hair gets sunbleached. For the roots I will sometimes use medium, medium ash, champange, or natural blonde. For the lighter part I'll use either extra light ash, ultra light ash, or extra light natural blonde.
Since I started doing this I get a LOT of compliments - even from men! People will tell me at work "Your hair doesn't look as brassy anymore" or "your new color is so beautiful."
I also read in Charla Krupp's book on how to not look fat that you should do darker roots with lighter highlights to make your face look thinner.
However, mom HATES my new way of doing my hair. She insists that my eyes "don't sparkle anymore", that my hair "looks green", and that I should either do it all ultra light ash (like she used to) or actually do my roots lighter and do the rest darker! Which I think looks about as stupid as blonde hair with black eyebrows. When I brought up Mrs. Krupp's book she said "I never heard of her" and that "She must've got her degree from a box of Cracker Jacks." This from a woman who watches What Not To Wear - which I think is a stupid show. (I'm sorry, but Clinton and Stacy can barely dress themselves. Him with his sloppy untucked shirt under a vest and her wearing green when it makes her look like she's going into liver failure.)
Mom will drop the subject for a couple of months, then suddenly bring it up again. This last time, for instance, I did my roots extra light natural blonde and the rest ultra light ash blonde - both lighter colors, but the natural is slightly darker then the ash. She started in on me while we were on a brief vacation. (The Glenn Miller Orchestra was up in Palm Springs and I've always wanted to see them.) Kept telling me how horrible I looked. Really laying the verbal abuse on.
I know for a fact that mom won't listen to you folks either - she still won't believe that mouse I use is not as drying as she thinks it is for instance - but if I could have double reassurance that I'm doing this the right way - not just from Mrs. Krupp's book but also from someone whom works with hair and color - then it gives me a bit of mental armor against her tirades.
Please don't get the idea that my mom is some sort of horrible person. She can be very loving and supportive. However she thinks just because she's almost 70 that she's always right. Especially when she's wrong. And I'm at the point where I'm ready to shave my head and start wearing wigs.

She's gone 1.5 years without a trim now, she has black hair, she's Singaporean, and she bleaches is platinum blonde, so you can imagine what damage her hair suffers, but it still looks quite healthy.
I did a course sometime ago for eyelash extension with Nouveau Lashes. The way the company continues to make money is from marking up their products for use in application - lashes, glue, eyepads, remover etc. For most of these products, there are just as effective substitutes. However, I wanted to know is their fast setting glue really the best, or could one buy exactly the same stuff at a fraction of the price. At the end of the day it is glue. But I want to be sure that what I might be using would not 'hurt' a client. These are not meant to touch the eye in any case but if there were pointers to look for. I'm trying to find the country of origin. Because at least if it's made in Europe or the US, it will have passed basic health tests. Any other thoughts?

I am wondering why the hair at my fringe, temples, and nape is always damaged, although it looks in good condition in other areas of my head. I know a lot of friends and relatives with the same problem. The hair line looks fried, puffy, and frizzy, while it looks healthier all over. I don't dye my hair, no perm, no straightening, no chemicals, no blow drying what so ever. I condition every time I shower.
So the past few months because I couldn't find anything else in the house and I really didn't want to go shopping, I picked up any of the hundreds of "special" shampoos my mom buys. The ones she says we're going to use from now on because "It'll make our hair so much healthier" and somehow end up in the back of the cupboard never used. All of them have been sulfate free. Different brands. Like right now I'm using Samy. The others I can't even remember the names of.
Let me tell you, they SUCK! My hair, which was unhealthy looking to begin with - I don't know if it's overprocessed or because I have PCOS (apparently receding hair is one of the symptoms) or both - is even more unhealthy looking. It doesn't keep a style. It's super fly away. Basically it looks awful. Even though I can't style my hair in anything other then a topsy tail and always do wash-and-wear, my hair looked way better when I was using Pantene or Dove products. Heck, even Sauve gave me better results.
Soon as this stuff is used up, I'm switching back. Bring on the silicones and sulfates, because my hair looked SO much better then!

Is anyone familiar with the new haircare product line HerCut that Sephora has recently started carrying? Their claim is that the Catalyst products will specifically support your hair solely based on the hairstyle you have. There are about 5 or 6 different types of catalyst available. The claims seem far-fetched to me but it might be worth the investment in a new haircare line if it really meets their claims. Like many others I'm hair-challenged and can use all the assistance I can get!
