I really like dark hair that gets slightly lighter near the ends of the strands. I think the lightness comes from time spent in the sun? Anyone know?
Well, how can I create that look (without spending time in the sun) or without expensive dying treatments?
For example, look at these pictures:

About two months ago, I started experiencing major eyebrow loss, coupled with large flakes. Up to four large hairs were coming out a day. My dermatologist has only been able to see me two days ago, and he told me that I had mild eczema in my eyebrow area, which was causing the fallout. He prescribed Verdeso Foam, with .05% desonide, and told me that it would stop the loss and accelerate new growth. Although it has only been two days, I haven't noticed any change in the amount of hairs coming out or in. So, I have two questions: Was the diagnosis incorrect, and does Verdeso really help growth? I've always had thick, bold eyebrows, and I can literally count the hairs. My eyebrows are very important to me, and my self-confidence is seriously undermined without them. Thank you so much for your help!
I really wanna get it done but I'm afraid my hairline will look wierd.....not natural.
Shaving it doesn't work because I have thick black hair.
Will laser hair removal remove it for good or will it grow back?
I really wanna be able to put my hair back in a ponytail without having to carefully hide my widow's peak all the time!
Some people look fine with a widow's peak and they like it, but I just think I look so wierd with it.
I read on a hair care forum about people using Redken Shades EQ hair gloss in #000 crystal clear and was wondering how effective it is and how exactly it works to make your hair shiny? Does it cause any damage to the hair? Has anyone here done this?
I'd really appreciate any information on this if anyone can help. Thanks!
Is hair glossing damaging to the hair?

Hi! I'm new here but I'm definitely not new to the beauty brains website - I absolutely love it! I am now completely obsessed.
I have a question about surfactants used in shampoos. I've done a little bit of research on them and understand that there are anionic, cationic, nonionic and amphoteric surfactants. From what I understand (please correct me if i'm wrong) shampoos mostly use anionic surfactants like sodium laureth/lauryl sulfate or ammonium laureth sulfate or magnesium laureth sulfate to clean the hair.... now here comes my question and it's been bugging me for ages... which anionic surfactants are the most harsh on hair and which ones are the mildest? Is ammonium laureth sulfate harsher on hair (and more foamy) than sodium laureth sulfate or magnesium laureth sulfate? Which are the most gentle surfactants to use in shampoo?
Also, i noticed that some shampoos use more than one type of surfactant.. does this mean they're harsher on hair?
I'd really appreciate ANY help i can get on this because the internet hasn't been as helpful on this topic as i thought it might be.

Hi Everyone,

My name is Donna and I live in Virginia, orignially (as of 4 years ago) from California. I miss all the independent beauty supply stores in CA that sold to consumers...I hate paying retail...which leads me to my question. Because of the economy I have been forced to cut back on everything including personal care products. So far I've switched to do-it-at-home hair color (actually looks as good if not better than my $100 salon job), switched to baby shampoo, and have done away with non essential hair conditioners, I have one last product that is burning a hole in my wallet. I currently pay about $30.00 for a 12 oz. tube of hair conditioner from a salon in California that makes their own products. I think I can duplicate this product with some degree of similarity. I have curly...okay frizzy hair that responds very well to this hair product so I don't want to try something else. It contains whole leaf aloe concentrate, water, glycerin, sorbitol, whole wheat protein, simethicone, extracts of: bamboo, wood mallow, ivy, parietary, cucumber, elder tree, arnica and rosemary & lavender oil & methylparaben (in that order).
I can find almost all the ingredients except the extracts. Are these necessary ingredients or fluff? And if they indeed add value to the product, does anyone know what company sells them?
This brand, with it's unique mix and match approach to hair care, was quite the rage in the 1980s. It went away for awhile and came back a few years ago in kicky new, hip version. It tanked. Now it's coming back again, apparently in a version designed to appeal to it's original fans.

My 30th birthday is tomorrow, and yesterday I went for a new haircut/style. I used Toni & Guy, because of a recommendation from a friend. Used a level 3 stylist ($59), and tipped $10. I wasn't sure about the cut, but I thought it needed to grow on me, or I would try to style it different.
The only direction I gave her was "something easy to do, swept to the side bangs, and I'm ok with going as short as my chin, and I do look good with a bob". My hair was middle of my back.
I feel like a have a mullet. The bangs are ok, little short, but they grow fast. The longest length is just below my shoulders, then another level at my chin.
Can I call her and tell her I hate it? Will they charge me $59 again?
I don't think it's something I can live with, it even looks weird in a ponytail.

Ten years ago (when I was 20) I had beautiful hair. Long, stick straight, super shiny. It's still long, but over the years it's gotten a duller and has just enough wave to be annoying. I've never used very much product, and rarely even blowdry my hair.

I've been using Asquith & Somerset Coconut Cream Intensive Hair Conditioner for 6 months now and I love it. I love the smell of coconut hair products and the benefit of coconut oil.

Unfortunately I have not found anyone who carries Asquith & Somerset here in Los Angeles- I can only find it online. I do not want to special order my conditioner every time I'm out, so I was looking for a new coconut conditioner that contains coconut oil (most coconut smelling products don't actually contain the oils!).
Please recommend!
He doesn't want them spikey; just "up". I think he needs a shampoo and conditioner for curly hair and maybe a leave-in product that will encourage his curls to do their thing.
So I just bought the No no hair remover at Sephora. The only way I could justify this purchase was that my friend gave me a gift certificate for Christmas, but I was still a little floored by the price. Anyway, has anyone else tried it? What do you think about it?

Ok, I'm just really amused to see one of the new BB articles on weird other ways to wash your hair. I've been a big convert to method #2 (conditioner cleansing). I use VO5's extra body conditioner- (no silicones) for it, and I don't get any build-up. I tried a few other brands too- suave, white rain, etc- but they didn't seem to clean as well as VO5 extra body, and I did get a heavier/not as clean feel with the other brands.

I think the trick to get CO cleaning to work well, is the length of time you leave the conditioner on & the amount you use too. Since there are less surfactants (& probably more gentle ones too) than in shampoo, it needs more time to work properly. I work in a LOT of conditoner in my hair- every strand is heavily coated, and then I leave it in for at least 20 mins to an half hour. I'm not in the shower for that long though! I wrap my hair up with a shower cap (or heck, even plastic grocery bags work well!) to keep the conditioner wet, then cover my head with one of those turbie-twist towels, and go off and do stuff- check email, read, surf the internet, whatever while waiting. Then I actually get in the shower and add a little water and massage my head, creating lather, and then rinse out well. I use a different 2nd conditioner aftewards too, probably overkill- but it keeps my hair from tangling up. What I like a lot about conditioning only is that I've been able to go longer inbetween washings- since I dye my hair, I try to wash it as few times as possible, to keep the dye in as long as possible. My hair stays cleaner longer now with conditioner cleaning- I can do 2 or maybe 3 times a week instead of the every day/every other day I was doing before. I think my problem with regular shampoos before was they were stripping too much of the natural hair oils and my scalp was overcompensating by producing more- so I would get oily /dirty looking hair faster so I'd wash it- strip more oils, get oily looking again right away, so I'd wash again the next day or so....vicious cycle.

So for me and my hair type, this method actually works really well- my hair is clean, doesn't smell, and feels nice too- softer & silkier. I'm currently not using any really heavy styling porducts either- some carol's daughter hair milk and mimosa hair honey (in tiny amounts)- so that would have to be factored in too, but I'm pleased with the results (I know I know- all "anecdotal evidence..") lol

I am surprised by the comment the brains made in the article: "It will also attract a lot more dust, pollen, and dirt from the air. " I've never noticed that with my hair- why would it attract more dust, etc from the air? Something to do with static electricity? Do the sulfates used in traditional shampoos cut down on static electricity?

How much conditioner do you use compared to shampoo?

I almost always go through two, sometimes three bottles of conditioner to one bottle of shampoo, bare minimum. My entire life I've never been able to figure out why they don't put the conditioner in a bigger bottle than the shampoo.

So I've got two conclusions--I don't use nearly as much shampoo as the companies want me to use per wash, or I use entirely too much conditioner.

I have no idea how common it is for people to use so much conditioner (or so little shampoo), so I thought I'd ask.

And what is up with those bottles? They put super thick conditioner into a hard-to-squeeze bottle and I can't get any of it out hardly to save my life! I've actually have had to ask my mate to squeeze some conditioner in my hand for me!

Hi everyone! I've got really flat, limp hair and I'm wondering if anyone has good tips, tricks, techniques, or must-have products that can help with this. To give you a bit of background, my hair is long-ish (goes past my shoulders), with a fine texture, but it's also thick in the sense that there is a lot of it. And it's dry from coloring, so skipping out on conditioner isn't an option unless I want to look like I've got a pile of hay on my head.

I've tried quite a few different root boosting products with pretty mediocre results. I've found that putting it up in some big velcro rollers makes it look great...for about 10 minutes and then it flattens out again. Is there anyway to keep the bounce? My hair needs help! :-)

I was scouring CVS's shampoo section looking for the Organix coconut shampoo (which they didn't have; the search continues) but I did find something called no-rinse shampoo. I took a closer look because neither of my kids rinse the shampoo out of their hair completely. Here are the directions and the ingredients:

Directions:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Apply generously until hair is completely wet. Massage to a rich lather. Immediately towel dry with an absorbent towel. Repeat for heavily soiled hair. No Rinse Shampoo can be used as often as necessary.

Ingredients:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Water, Triethanolamine Lauryl Sulfate, Propylene Glycol, Cocoamide DEA, Fragrance, Diazolidinyl Urea, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Citric Acid

Has anyone heard of or used this? I doubt it gets your hair really and truly clean but it would be nice to have a quick fix for mornings when you're in a rush.
