She doesn't use concealer or foundation, because her skin tone is so even (due to always wearing sunscreen and hats). She does use a cream blush. I’m interested in hearing your thoughts about a foundation I bought recently (Rimmel). Straight after purchasing and opening it was very watery? I tried shaking the bottle hoping it would fix its self but nope!! There is also a mild smell to the product. Is this a sign that its shelf life may be over?? If so I then cannot help questioning how these products continue to be sold in this sort of condition in reputable department stores.

LONG PREAMBLE: It was a big deal for me in my early 40's to start wearing a daily sunscreen/moisturizer. I always protected my skin when I was outside for extended periods of time (beach, skiing, etc), but I had never worn anything on my face daily. Never wore foundation of any kind, just blush and lisptick. I always had somewhat oily skin, and it only took trying out a light moisturizer or sunscreen of any kind to throw my skin out of balance and cause me to break out. I did great with nothing on--never dry, only occasional pimples. So I just kept doing what worked. At almost age 40, I started commuting in my car during daylight hours, and unbeknownst to me I was getting UVA exposure through the auto glass, and got melasma. Then I got rosacea. To make a short story long, I finally bit the bullet and started using a daily sunscreen. I can tolerate that now because the rosacea treatment dries my skin out, and I'm older and not as oily as I used to be.
The ACTUAL ISSUE: I started out a few years ago experimenting with powder foundations because they are light, even my skin tone a bit, and add to the sun protection (if they have spf). But sometimes I would like to try a somewhat dewier finish with a bit more coverage. The problem is every time I try a liquid foundation (even--or maybe even especially--tinted moisturizers), I feel like I can't wait to get home and wash it off. Any recommendations for a really light foundation that's not drying, cakey, tight, or settles in the pores (as many products that claim to be for oily skin can be)? Or is it all in the application? It's more how it feels on than how it looks that's the issue for me. I'm also not sure I ever found a powder or mineral makeup that truly matched my skin color, but that's another problem...
Today I tried Bobbi Brown's "skin" foundation. It's maybe a contender. The color the makeup artist selected was definitely a color match.
Though my shopping trip did entail the annoying lectures about how skin needs to drink from moisturizers just like your body needs to drink water (okay, skin gets its water from the water you drink, and if natural oils are abundant they prevent water loss just like moisturizer does, but that's another story), how wrong I was to never use moisturizer when I was younger, how dry my skin is (after she just used a very drying remover to take off what I had on).

So I just finished posting on my new liquid foundation that I said I didn't hate the feel of, and my eyeliners (which I do still love). I wore all of the above to work today, plus mascara (a big deal for me, I'm not much of a mascara girl). I must say that by the end of the day, I absolutely could not wait to get home and remove that stuff. And sadly, my eyes were faintly (fortunately, not intensely) irritated, which I sure hope isn't from those gorgeous urban decay liners (I'm hoping it was the mascara). Okay, I confess, I also had on the urban decay eyeshadow primer potion in "sin" (a shimmer color that doubles as a shadow as well as primer). Maybe I overdid it. Oh well, if they wind up being dress-up or play products, I'll still have fun playing with them when I do. Make-up should be fun after all.
Anyone else have mixed feelings about their beauty routines and experiments?

I was thinking about creating a simpler "makeup row" in my room. So I was counting this morning all the things I'll need. I wanna know what you think about it and whether I'm missing anything. So here goes:

1 liquid foundation
1 Concealer
1 Compact powder
2 Blushers (pink and brownish )
NB: I use this stuff on occasions i'm not much of a makeup person. I'm not very fair. I can say medium :) I love to wear purple but purple lipstick sucks on me.

5 lipsticks (red, fuschia, pink, nude, lilac)
2 lipgloss (pink and nude)
1 black eyeliner, 3 eyeliners colored (say blue, purple green)
1 Black mascara (I don't know whether it's my skin colour or what, but brown mascara makes no difference at all to me, same look)
An eyeshadow palette (I wouldn't mind 40 colours as long as they are in pallette and not scattered everywhere as mine are now :D )

Nail polish (dark red, fuschia, white and rose for french (or alone) , lilac) I hate glittery nail polish

So ladies, what about you, what do u think?? :D

I have been happily using mineral makeup, but have recently read that it might not be safe to inhale titanium dioxide, which is an ingredient in my mineral makeup (everyday minerals) and in many other brands also. It's hard to apply loose powder mineral makeup without inhaling at least some dust from the powder - is this really something to be concerned about?
Thanks!

So I get fully made up maybe once a year to go to a concert or something (saw David Daniels at Disney Hall last March, will be going to the Pennsylvania Ballet this December), but it became mildly clear to me last March that powder foundation is no longer the best idea for me.

Now, I'm not looking to look airbrushed and I do not want to look like a Botox addict, so I'm a bit nervy about going to the MAC counter and asking for their advice because they will scare the shit out of me, or I will scare the shit out of them. So I'm asking you people:

What's a good, basic LIGHT foundation that can be stippled with a good brush and won't make me look like I'm a middle-aged trophy wife who's scared of my husband's secretary?

I absolutely LOVE MAC's Studio Fix Powder Plus foundation. BUT it makes me break out soooo badly. I have not been able to find anything that compares. I found out that it's the evil Isotstearyl Palmitate (comedogenicity rating of 4 out of 5!) that is breaking me out, it's the 2nd ingredient in this foundation. I'm looking for a powder foundation with good coverage that does NOT clog pores. Anyone have any ideas or comments?
