I'm happy to write you-I find the answers rather enlightening..Due to my skin "issues" I was always cleansing my face with soap-free products (they produced foam of cource). I was wondering what are the cleansing agents of soap-free products..(as far as I've seen, they do not use the likes of laureth sulfates).
thank you in advance..
Is it really that bad? I mean, does it have normally this poor POOR quality?

Well, for those of you who have strayed away from Cetaphil, Cerave, Aveeno; have you tried the Olay Foaming Face Wash for Sensitive Skin?
They have another one called Olay Gentle Face Wash with Aloe. Both are fragrance free and I've been meaning to check them out. More so since I found out that Dove has stopped making the Sensitive Skin Cleansing Cloths that I was planning to try.

There seems to be only one problem, DMDM Hydantoin has been used as a preservative & it is a known Formaldehyde.
Not to say that Cetaphil is 100% safe, there are parabens in there & new research raises doubts on Propylene Glycol being a skin irritant.
Has anybody had any luck with these two Olay cleansers?

Surely I'm not the only person out there with dry AND sensitive AND acne-pone (more like blackhead prone) skin.

All of the sudden this semester (never really get acne) I broke out with tiny bumps all over my forehead and temples, and blackheads just cover my nose. I didn't know what to do. I ordered some Paula's Choice products - One Step Face Cleanser, 1% BHA Lotion, Moisture Boost Toner, and Hydrating Treatment cream. I tried these, and they did not improve my skin. I mean, I guess they didn't really do much of anything for me. The BHA lotion dried my skin out and so I was probably using it too much, but not I feel weary about using BHA for the danger to the skin.

So, after no luck I stopped using the products, and just couldn't find a cleanser that I would deam safe. See, on other makeup blogs I go to, people there say that the Environmental Working Group is hardly accurate, and that I should not look at the Cosmetics Databse -- www.cosmeticsdatabase.com -- with believing it. I like to look at it in order to find products that would be safer for my sensitive skin. However, with the people telling me that they don't believe the EWG is accurate, it got me thinking again. In addition, I read some of Paula Begoun's articles on how natural is not better than snythetic. BUT I get so confused of what ingredients to pass over and which to be really concerned about. Yes, I am a weary consumer.

So I just began to cleanse with water solely because I have not been wearing makeup, and I would moisture with Olive oil. Recently, I added in Differin on to spots but it has dried out my skin. I have also topically been using tea tree mixed with water on the nose, chin, and forehead for it's anti-bacterial and drying properties. All of the sudden, yesterday my face just flared up with dry, itchy, red patches. It was unbearable. I went back to Paula's Choice Hydrating Treatment Cream. I don't see it doing much but it sure feels better on the skin for a little while.

Basically, what all of this comes down to is that I am so overconfused and bombarded with material that I have a hard time sifting through it all and really tracking down products that will be safe and effective. I know this Blog has been great for it....but call me stupid, I just can't take in all of it! It's so much valuable info. Are there any rec's at what I need to do or what I need to stop doing? I sure could use some product advice and routine advice!

TIA! Kelsey

Granted it is sticky and you can not really wear it in the morning as a facial moisturizer, but what are your thoughts as a night moisturizer and as a acne/wound fighter?

Hi,

I have combination facial skin with mild acne & mild facial psoriasis (I
know, how lucky). I am having trouble finding a good facial cleanser that
dep cleans without cloging my pores or irritating my psoriasis.

I have tried Cetaphil Gentle cleanser but it seems to have Sodium Lauryl
Sulphate, the worst surfactant out there. I had some luck with Cerave
Hydrating cleanser as it has a revolutionary system of ceramides but it
also has parabens & Behentrimonium Methosulfate; a known skin irritant. I
have tried Aveeno Ultra calming, Purpose Gentle wash, Neutrogena Extra
Gentle & Liquid Neutrogena too.

Please suggest which is the safest, non-irritating, non-comedogenic,
non-drying facial cleanser out there. A good day moisturizer without SPF
would also help. I am using Cetaphil Moisturizing lotion at the moment.

Well, after hanging out here on this forum & the blog for a while, I feel Beauty Brains should have a list of favourite cleansers & moisturizers for all the skin types like Oily/Dry/Normal/Sensitive/Combination. After all, its crazy out there with so many products & after reading beauty blog it is even more difficult to find something that does the job & is safe at the same time.

I have been using Cetaphil Dail Facial Cleanser for Normal to Oily Skin for 2 weeks now & it does a good job of cleansing without drying, but it does not take more than a couple of hours for my face to turn into a grease ball. Also, the cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion is way too Oily for Combination skin.
I'm sure there is something out there, very basic that I can wash with & then use a good matte lotion without spf as all spf irritates my skin.

I have used J&J Purpose, Neutrogena Pure & Mild, Cetaphil Gentle, Cetaphil daily, Clean & Clear, Vichy face washes. For day lotions, I have tried Cetaphil, Olay Total effects, Vanicream Lite, Cerave.

I have mild facial & scalp psoriasis and have recently started UVB phototherapy. My drug of choice has always been 12% Amlactin Lotion as it deep moisturises & removes scale effectively. I read somewhere to avoid exposure to sunlight while using Amlactin. Does that mean I should not use Amlactin while on phototherapy or I should not apply it & go for phototherapy? I wish there was a better lotion for dry, flaky skin but there isn't.

Here's an email from Michelle. It was too long to print in the blog so we thought we'd share it in the forum. We'll be posting the answer to her question on Wednesday.

Ok, I am 54 years young, when I was 22 I read an article, sent in by a
reader to a health magazine. In it she mentioned that she was advised to
use buttermilk for a rash she developed on her face. To her surprise, not
only did the rash dissapear, she noticed that many of her wrinkles did
also. And so did her friends. That sold me, and I have been using
buttermilk on my face every since then. There is no question that my skin
looks much younger than women my age. I often get comments and compliments
about my skin from complete strangers. I have also stayed out of the sun
and don't smoke. I know these can cause wrinkles. I have had people tell me
that the buttermilk is not the reason. But I know this.....I won't ever be
without it. Today I also use pricey beauty products like ReVive and
Origins. And I like them too, but I just add them to my beauty regemin
which includes a splash of buttermilk after washing AM and PM. Massage it
in using upward strokes, for a minute or two, towel off, then apply
moisturizer or serum of choice. I can send you a photo of me with no
makeup if you like. Thanks for your response.

PS Glad I found this website. I am also a licensed esthetician in CT, but
not currently employeed in that field.

So I saw an article title by SheFinds on the BB site: Nixe the Moisturizer. I was intrigued. SheFinds' author went in for a facial and they told her to stop using moisturizer and exfoliate daily because "dry skin is a myth." What do you all think of this?

http://shefinds.com/blog/index.php/weblog/comments/new_beauty_regime_nixe_the_moisturizer/

I'm not sure I agree. I'm under the impression that exfoliating every day is bad for your skin, for one. Also, I live in Minnesota and frankly the idea of going without moisturizer (especially in the winter -- it gets cold up here) is a scary thought. I certainly hope that they aren't implying the moisturizer is BAD for your skin...I'd be more inclined to think it may be unnecessary for some people/during certain times of the year.

Anyway, let me know what you think!

My name is Maria. I am trying to find people who would be interested to meet and discuss opinions about current patient education tools (brochures, websites) and ways to make them more useful and informative for people who are trying to decide which injectable facial rejuvenation product to get.

I have researched many forums (boards and blogs) and found that there is a lot of discussion on these types of products; however, there are many areas that require more explanation and education, such as product attributes, time to notice change and length of benefit (product effectiveness), side effects, locating trained doctors for proper administration, and after-care.

Let me know if you are interested, and let’s talk.

Thanks,
