Hello everyone,

I have so many questions regarding sunscreen that I can't seem to get a definitive, scientifically-backed answer to.

To this point I have not been wearing sunscreen, moisturizer, or really anything on my face. I don't like to be out in the sun during the height of summer and my skin type (medium-olive) is not typically affected, so it just never occurred to me. But I keep reading that the two best defenses against skin damage are moisture and sunscreen, so I'm trying to be more disciplined. However, it hasn't been easy for me to get clear answers on what I should be looking for.

As I said I do not stay out in the sun much, but I do commute on foot for a minimum of an hour a day.

What perplexes me most are all the different formulas. I bought a spray sunscreen to use on my body during summer (from Neutrogena), but have discontinued it since the weather started cooling down and I have been wearing more covering clothing. However, on my face, I am continuing to either wear an SPF 20 tinted moisturizer or just regular, oil free SPF 15 moisturizer depending on whether I want to wear makeup (specifically, Tarte Smooth Operator or Boscia oil free moisturizer). Is this enough? Should I be wearing a separate, dedicated sunscreen or is it ok for my moisturizer/makeup to double as a sunscreen? Do I need to reapply? What about powder sunscreens? I have oily skin so my greatest concern is layering so much goo all over my already gooey face. I like the idea of an all-in-one product for that reason, but if it isn't effective, I would really like to know.

Thanks--this is a great site!

I got a sample of Skyn Cloud Cream from Sephora, and I absolutely loved it. It made my oily, allergy-sensitive, breakout-prone, but inexplicably easily dried out skin feel soft and smooth without breaking me out or feeling greasy. It's the first moisturizer I've ever tried that's done that. Buuuuuut it costs $75 and that's way out of my price range. Is there a way for me to find a similar product without the hefty price tag?
More recently I've used their Zero Oil face wash and Toner, again love them. I'm one who wants to feel clean, not greasy on my face! But, I haven't found an eye cream (for wrinkles) with them that I like. I recently bought Aveda Green Science eye cream online, so will see how that works. I'm a fax on Aveda hair products and have friends who love their skin products too. Here is my question:
- thoughts on Aveda Tourmaline products, cleanser, serum, masque and hydrating lotion
- thoughts on Green Science (Aveda) eye cream
- thoughts on Origins lines

I'm 37 years old and take care of my skin, just can't stand heavy make-up or creams. And, wanting to start stopping these wrinkles from getting worse.

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone had any views on the Kora Organic Skincare range (http://www.koraorganics.com/). I've looked at a couple of forums for reviews, but perhaps the range is new as there doesn't seem to be many people on the forums who have tried it. Although, I came across one person who commented that Noni juice causes liver damage.

I've been using Paula's Choice HydraLight Moisture-Infusing Lotion, which I quite like, but I'm nearly out and wondering whether the price of the Kora Hydrating Day & Night Cream is worth it (double the price of HydraLight).

The ingredients for the Kora Hydrating Day & Night Cream are listed as: aqueous extract of Rosa damascene (Rose), Camellia thea (green tea), Morinda Citrifolia (noni) fruit and leaf, Matricaria chamomilla (Chamomile), Rosa centifolia (Rose), Laminaria japonica (brown kelp), Duvillea podoratum (Bull Kelp), Rosa Eglanteria oil (Rose Hip), Macadamia Integrifolia seed oil (Macadamia Oil), Persea gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Olivoyl hydrolysed wheat protein, Glyceryl oleate, Sodium hyalonurate, Polygonum extract, Mangifera indica (Mango) butter , Omega 6 fatty acids (Vitamin F), Natto Gum (amino Acid), Glyceryl stearate, Bisabolol, Pomegranate Sterols, Beta carotene (Vitamin A), Ascorbyl palmitate (Vitamin C), d-alpha Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E), Vitis Vinifera (grapeseed) Oil, Hippophae rhamnoides (sea buckthorn) Oil, Lecithin (GMO free), Macrobiotic sea salt, Lactic acid, Chondras crispus (carageenan) ,Rosa damascene (Rose), Jasminium officinalis (Jasmine), Benzyl alcohol, dehydroacetic acid.
Many thanks!

My lancaster sun care cream SPF 50 says " ultra protection tan control"
What does this mean exactly? Does it accelerate tanning or just protects skin as it tans.
I assumed beacuse people who need sun protection are usually those who tan and thus stay in the sun for a long time, it may be only for protection.
Also my banana boat sunscreen say "for a moisturized tan" what does this mean too ?

So I'm going on a shopping spree in Dubai in a few days...I read a lot about clarisonic, now the thing is I'm not comparing prices but I want to know what is the major advantage of it versus normal brushes. I'm 21 with a normal skin (but an oily T-bone sometimes) so I'm not sure whther I need something aggressive on my face.
So is it right for me? Is it worth the money? Why would anyone need it anyway??
And since I'm shopping, can you think of any items/makeup/skincare...any product that's a must-have that I should consider while I'm at it?
Thanks a bunch :)

Let's all see a dermatologist

So I have this mole on my face that I've had since childhood, if not since birth. Being a slightly neurotic person who of late has been increasingly obsessed with skincare and beauty (and therefore studying her own skin), I got concerned that the color has lightened and is maybe a bit pinker (well, okay, true confessions, then I felt it and convinced myself it felt firmer...). Since I have a lot of moles (plus the rosacea, melasma and seborrheic keratoses--oh, my), I resolved to see my dermatologist. I'm due anyway.
I realized that I'd suggested a visit to a dermatologist to others on a number of threads. We've all been talking about sunscreens, and we know what they're for besides preventing wrinkles--prevention of skin cancer! So, let's all see a dermatologist! They'll make sure our skin is free of cancer, and at the same time, help with all our cosmetic skin issues. If you're over 30, you can ask what your evolving lumps, bumps and discolorations really are. Often, they can help separate myth from fact when it comes to skincare. I think everyone should see one. I'll be the local public service announcement. http://www.aad.org/findaderm/
And as for my mole, it might just be looking pinker because I used that retinol.

adjustment to retinol

We've been talking about rosacea a lot. Mine is mild, so if I react to something, it isn't unbearable waiting it out. But I don't like to flare it on purpose, just because of the risk of dilated blood vessels coming to the surface (and staying there). I was just wondering about retinol. I just tried Neutrogena tone-correcting moisture, which has retinol and I think ascorbic acid. I think I was hoping there wasn't much in there and nothing would happen, silly me. My rosacea did act up, a lot more than usual. The product does advise, and I have heard, that the initial reaction will abate. But does this still hold true if you have rosacea skin? I've heard mixed reviews of retinoids in rosacea. Of course, I'm not sure if there is another ingredient contributing.

Is Lanolin (sheepwol-fat) really a miracleworker?

I have been using a skincare product of a company that advertises with their use of lanoline. The Dutch company owns a sheepfarm and found out while handling wool how the fat from the sheepskins is really good for dry skin and other various skin problems so they made some products from scratch who are now becomming more wellknown. So the secret of all this is Lanoline. My question is; is this really a miracle worker and how well does it protect your skin?

Ive wrote down the ingredients from their daycreme. It was in Dutch so I hope I got it right in English.

Water, lanoline, shea butter, jojobaoil, cetearyl alcohol, glycerin glyceryl stearate, caprylyl glycol, sodium cetearyl sulphate, parfum, vitamine E, soja-oil, lecithine, ascorbyl palmitate, glyceryl oleate, aloe vera, citrus acid, caroteen olie sodium hyaluronate isopropyl palmitate allantoin, vitamine F, vitamine A, lactic acid, fruitzuren: malic acid, pyroglutamic acid, glucolic acid, pyruvic acid, tartaric acid.

Kind Regards,

I get bumps on the backs of my thighs. Often they seem to be ingrown hairs or dead skin, but I haven't figured out how to stop them. I have tried shaving less, not shaving at all, and shaving frequently, and none of them did anything. (As a side note, in high school I had a friend with a similar problem on her upper arms, so I'm guessing it's not shaving-related.) I do use lotion, but can't use it that often because of skin sensitivities.

Any ideas on what is going on or possible solutions? Thanks!

Is Noxzema Original Cleansing Cream a good choice for mild Rosacea?

I recently realized that I have mild rosacea (I don't tend to pay much attention to my face, LOL!) and have probably had it for a couple of years. I have been using Queen Helene's Oatmeal and honey facial scrub every day for several years. It is fairly mild, but I think it may have been intensifying or aggravating the rosacea, so I have decided to switch to a non-scrubbing cleanser.

I did some research online and found good reviews of Cetaphil's Gentle Cleansing bar (it has different ingredients than the liquids, which got bad reviews), but I am afraid it may be too mild for my acne-prone skin. I used to use the original Noxzema cleansing cream years ago before I had a problem, and recall it was gentle yet made my face feel very clean. Is it too harsh for someone with rosacea? I could find no reference too it on the rosacea websites.
