I'm kicking myself for not being to find a definitive answer to this on my own; I've been so far away from my precious library lately! Anyways, can potassium penetrate the skin at all? My gut reaction is no, or at least not in any amount that will have any effect on the body. On the other hand, K+ ions are so tiny and integral to cell function. On the other other hand, the stratum corneum is dead so the Na/K pumps aren't functioning anyway. On the fourth hand.... blah.

Even if potassium does absorb through the skin, a soap that contains green tea (not a shabby source of potassium, actually) would contain so little and be washed away so quickly that any ad copy that suggests a health benefit would be utter rubbish, right?

Hyperpigmentation - My nemesis! No matter what SPF I slather on (currently using Elta MD), after 2 or 3 days my skin retaliates with annoying scaliness and dry patches. Therefore, much to my chagrin, I cannot wear it everyday. I loathe the subtle brown mask that appears on the left side of my face after several weeks, especially as the warm weather months arrive, from just the simple act of driving a car! Question 1: Is Meladerm the real deal? Question 2: Do I need to wear SPF everyday while using this product therefore it's a vicious circle of brown, no brown, scales, brown, no brown, scales? Monthly glycolic peels seem to do the trick as well, but I could stand to lose the 4-day snake shedding look. Any help would be fabulous.
It seems odd that something so gentle on the skin would make me cry like a baby. The aloe vera gel I am using is from Fruit of the Earth, and contains no alcohol.
Is there a difference between "scrub" and "gentle exfoliating facial wash"?
I assume from texture that exfoliating washes are milder than regular scrubs but I dunno if it's true. I am also concerned about daily use. I used to scrub daily until i read online at http://www.drhauschka.com/about/7-facts/
that scrubbing strips natural protection. Since then I decided not to scrub daily "until further notice" :D
So are any scrubs suitable for daily use, and it is better to scrub or wash with exfoliation daily anyway or the less frequent the better??
On the same page they mentioned avoiding night creams? How much of that is true??

Put briefly, I'm a guy with slightly pale skin type (not like a typical redheaded individual might be) and I tanned for nearly 5 years straight and I estimate I did it 500-700 times. Scary. I was fairly young and really didn't know better and now I guess I just got to deal with it best I can :/

I have some skin discoloration (brown spots) and then a few spots where my skin is alot lighter than everywhere else. I also, at least in my opinion, to have overall unhealthly looking skin maybe a little dry or damaged from the tanning I don't know exactly. I might just even be being to critical, I have no clue. But I guess given the above problems, and assuming I do have little or dry damaged skin:

What are some good skin care/repair products i could use? From what I've read Olay is widely accepted as the best or one of the best. And are their products that will actually repair the skin damage and are cosmetic as well to help make skin look and be more healthy and evenly toned?

What kind of diet could I impliment? Multi vitamin?

What's your guys take on Phytessence wakame, Cynergy TK, etc? Do they really help repair/rebuild collagen and more?

A good sun screen/block product (whichever is better)?

Is it truely beneficial to moisturize everyday if you don't have dry skin?

I'm kind of desperate for answers lol and been really bothered that I have to live with whatever results my mistake of tanning brings.

Does is mean they are all pretty much the same and the secret is in washing with cloth dipped in hot water, following with cold to close the pores? Though I don't have acne anymore, I still have a lot of hyperpigmentation and redness from the acne I used to have. Here's is what I use. Let me know if you know of any products that really helped you in this area. I also have heard vitamin c serum is great .
I've tried most of the major brands on the shelves (including a few products from Clean & Clear, Noxzema, Neutrogenia, Dove, Olay) and those fall-back products everyone recommends (Cetaphil, Purpose, Proactiv) and everything causes me to break out. The strange thing is that when I just use water, I don't break out--it's just using product on my face that causes acne!

I haven't tried any products from the higher end lines (like Clinique), but I'd be open to it. I've heard people say that your skin just has to "get used to" a product and then the breakout will clear up, but I am not willing to wait for that. I tried Proactiv for nearly a month and hated looking at myself in the mirror because of those nasty, red pimples. :(

Noxzema vs. Bar Soap

Ok, so hopefully I haven't wore out my welcome with my recent controversial discussion involving religion, but...

I recently started using soap from Bio-Botanicals (http://www.bio-botanicals.com/soap.html) It was on clearance at Pier-1, so I bought a couple bars...not sure if bar soap is the best thing to wash your face with, seeing as it has been drying out my face and then becoming very oily when i wake up in the morning.

My mom always used Noxzema and still has amazing skin. A lot of other people rave about Original Noxzema and how wonderful it is. So I guess i'm just seeking more opinions, who uses it, and if it helps acne or aggravates acne...because at this point I am frustrated with facial cleansers and should probably find a cheap replacement from bar soap, as I have heard is not good to wash your face with.

Noxzema Ingredients: Water, Stearic Acid, Linum Usitatissimum (Linseed), Seed Oil, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Fragrance, Ammonium Hydroxide, Camphor, Menthol, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil, Propylene Glycol, Gelatin, Calcium Hydroxide

Kinda strange that it doesn't contain any "parabens"...and doesn't really have a lot of ingredients. I guess that's a good thing.

I am looking to shorten the time it takes me to get ready, so I am looking for two key products:
1) A tinted moisturizer with UVA/UVB protection and an SPF higher than 15
2) a tinted lip balm with UVA/UAB protection

Help me find good products that fit these requirements! :)
