I was accepted into the Cosmetic Science degree program at the London College of Fashion. I had to defer enrollment because im trying to source funding. Its an undergrad 3yr sandwich degree. As far as i know the only other school offering something even close on the undergrad level is FIT in NY (Cosmetic Marketing BS). Does anyone have any suggestions about finding grants or scholarships or an alternative route. I and 10 credits shy of an associate degree. This would be a great opportunity to study abroad. Its just soo expensive and financial aid offers only Stafford loans. Im going to contact the SCC in NY about a list of schools too.
I am compelled to point out that "Cosmetic Marketing BS" is an unfortunate combination of terms. If that's what's going to appear on your diploma then you probably shouldn't hang it on your wall. That would be asking for trouble.
I don't have any suggestions about grants or scholarships but I wish you the best of luck. It sounds like a wonderful opportunity and I hope you find a way to make it happen. And don't listen to your parents if they tell you to get a degree in math because you can do anything you want if you have a degree in math. It's a lie; no one in the beauty industry is impressed with a math degree.
No, I'm not bitter. Why do you ask?
:) True indeed...the correct title is Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Cosmetics and Fragrance Marketing at FIT.
Thanks PurpleRules for your response and support. I have faith that everything will come to fruition. I didn't realize that I could combine my passion for research and skincare until I started my quest to find a degree program with a focus on skincare. When I interviewed with the London College of Fashion, for one of the first times in my life I felt so confident in my goals and life path. I know I want to create an extraordinary life for myself and make a difference in the skincare industry so that women of all tones can have options. Its so frustrating going to the makeup counter or searching online with no luck in finding skincare/cosmetics to compliment your skin tone. If you are too dark then youre out of luck. And that's not acceptable to me. So I have to be the change that I seek:)
And no you don't sound bitter:) i believe we all play it safe and follow in our parents footsteps or do what society dictates at one time or another. but then hopefully we wake up and start living for ourselves and not others. That's the transition that i'm going through as we speak.
@briquelinda - I'm assuming you live in London? If so, you'll want to contact the SCS rather than the SCC. But if you live in the United States there are a variety of other programs for cosmetic science that you might consider. See this post for a list.

The program in Cincinnati is excellent. You might also consider connecting with other cosmetic chemists through both LinkedIn and Twitter. (see http://chemistscorner.com/20-cosmetic-chemists-who-tweet-do-you/)
The scientists in the cosmetic industry are eager to help and the SCC is a great organization to connect with them. Sorry I don't have any specific recommendations for scholarships although I do know that some chapters of the SCC give scholarships to students each year. Good luck!
@Purple - I'm impressed with your math degree.
