hair product damage

Hi! I was watching a video on how to style hair without damage. It´s from the American Academy of Dermatology, I`ll leave the link:

One thing that surprised me is that it says you should use styling products sparingly because they can cause "significant hair loss". I tried searching more information, but I couldnt find anything reliable that explains if this is true and if so why.

  • Actually the video says that "using a comb to style your hair after you apply product often causes the hair to break."

That's because styling products make hair fibers stick together and therefore more likely to snag on a comb which can lead to breakage. So it's not the products themselves that cause breakage but rather it's trying to pull a comb through your hair that's been "glued" together.
