What part of getting ready takes longest?
  • For me, it's the blow-drying. It takes longer than even taking a shower.
  • blow drying or curling my hair

    finding an outfit I like

they both take a long time...
  • Definitely showering. I could spend all day in there. I don't generally dry my hair and make-up is pretty simple. I try and find my outfit the night before...it doesn't always work out...
  • Shower = Make-up = Hair -> All about equal for me!
  • make up..

my hair dries fast and i keep it just past my shoulders
  • The shower takes the longest. It doesn't take long to dry my hair because it's short and thin. Makeup and picking out my clothes can go either way. I have go-to outfits for days when I'm rushed but other times I try 3 or 4 before I find something I like. I can also do my makeup quickly when necessary by skipping steps but would rather do a "full face". So with clothes and makeup, the work expands to fit the time allotted.

I tried to do Carmindy's 5 minute face in 5 minutes but couldn't do it. It took me 7 minutes and I'm pretty handy with makeup.
  • PurpleRules--7 minutes isn't too bad for make-up.

Today I actually did my face. It took me about 15 minutes...but only because I put eyeliner on and then took it off and put another color on.
  • Most days, it's deciding how deluded the weather report is so I know how many layers to wear, then convincing myself to crawl out of bed.

On special occasions, it's getting dressed. I'll have an outfit all laid out, then change my mind -- and clothes -- 3 or 4 times.
  • 7 minutes was my best possible time for minimal makeup. 15 minutes is about how long it takes most days; 20 if I'm having an "all-thumbs" day. If I have time to play then it takes... much longer. I could easily spend 45 minutes doing my makeup. I can blow 7 minutes just deciding what color eye shadows I want to use.
  • PurpleRules--what a foreign concept. 45 minutes on make-up. Wow. I can take that long in the shower...before I decide to wash my hair. Also, I'd have to get up at 4:30am and I think that sleep is a pretty important part of looking my best! Plus, I don't want to get up that long before the sun.
  • I have to "ditto" PurpleRules on all this. Perfect comment, PR, about "the work expands to fit the time allotted". That means, of course, if I have 3 hours to get ready...three hours it is!

I can definitely be a "high maintenance" girl!
  • Shower: 10 minutes
    Make-Up: 5 minutes
Hair Drying: 10+ minutes (It's really thick ... I don't wash it every day, though. On wash days, I try to let it air dry for at least an hour, but it still takes more than 10 minutes to get it completely dry. If I let it air dry completely, it takes four hours.)
    Flat-Ironing: 10 minutes
    Getting dressed: 5 minutes
  • The 45 minutes is "play time"; if I'm going out in the evening or on a weekend when I have time to fool around and try new things. In the morning when I'm getting ready for work? No. The typical morning routine is 15 minutes.
  • Hmm... this is a good question. I guess it depends on what my end goal is. I usually try to wash my hair at night so I don't have to in the morning. I also don't wash my hair every day. I really try to go 2 days without washing since I don't want to damage my hair anymore (I color it a lot!), but usually can only make it 1 day sans washing. If I wear it curly, though, it's a lot easier because it doesn't show when it gets a little oily and I also don't really touch it when it's curly. When it's straight my hands are in it all day long, which makes it super-oily.

So, if I'm going to work, I jump in the shower for about 5 minutes, if even that, without getting my hair wet. Then swipe on some tinted foundation and blush, curl my eyelahes, put on a coat of mascara, and pull my hair back usually in a bun with the front pieces puffed up a bit and held in place with bobby pins. Clothes are easy, because I can wear pretty much anything to work. So, about 15-20 minutes and I'm out the door.

Days I go to campus, it takes a little longer. Generally I'll put on a bit more makeup, or at least spend more time putting on my makeup so that it looks a bit better, be more careful about what my hair looks like, and will probably spend more time choosing clothes because I care more about what I look like when I'm going to be on campus all day. So maybe 25 minutes, 30 if I'm having a sloooow day.

When I get all dolled up to go out, though, all bets are off. I like to start getting ready about 2 hours before hand so I know that I have plenty of time and will often stop here and there to make drinks, put on different music, call people and organize, etc. Those nights I'll shower for about 15-20 minutes, I'll usually do my hair by putting a ton of product in it, then blowdrying, and then "straightening" it on hot rollers, all of which can take 30 minutes, then make up can take 20-30 minutes, easily, with all the fun stuff I have to play with. Plus I am really into the winged eyeliner look right now and it takes a while (and often several tries) to get the wings to match. Picking out clothing will take all the rest of the time I have, unless I have something brand new that I am dying to wear. The clothing part can take up to 45 minutes in some cases if I'm having an off night. My boyfriend will always cringe if we are supposed to be somewhere at a certain time and he realizes I haven't picked my clothes out yet, even if we still have 30 minutes. He knows me so well! So those nights it can take up to 2 hours, but I unfortunately don't usually have that much time and will just basically spend all the time I have before I need to be somewhere getting ready.

Whew! Long answer to a simple question! I guess all parts of getting ready can take the same amount of time depending on what I'm trying to do.
  • shower with hair washing
  • Showering. I just do wash and wear for my hair so it's just product, rubberband, topsy tail, and go. Makeup I do in two parts, foundation before I get dressed, lipstick and blush after. But showering includes washing my body, then doing my hair, then while the condictioner sits on it I shave my armpits, legs, and forearms (yes I'm that hairy and I have to do it every day), wash the condictioner out, scrub my back, final rinse.
  • Definitely make up. I pick out clothes before I shower. It usually only takes a minute or two. Shower, wash and condition my hair 5-10 minutes. 10 minutes to dry my hair, and 20-30 minutes for make up. I have to admit, if I was working, picking out clothes would probable take more time. The last 18 years I worked, I wore a uniform, so it was a no brainer.
  • Anything that involves taking care of my hair. Whether is shamppoing, mosturizing, combing or straightening.
  • i was always amazed at people who can do it in 10mins...
  • Makeup takes me the longest because I have red spots left over from old acne that I have to cover every day. :(

I wish I could just slap on some powder and head out the door!!!
  • Lately, I've noticed that it takes me forever to get ready for bed, too. The list of things to do includes:

    Applying products to remove make-up
    Two-step cleansing and then exfoliation
    Tweezing stray hairs
Applying anti-aging products to my skin
    Applying hand and nail products

I don't remember it being this complicated when I was younger.
