color-safe shampoos/conditioners
  • What makes a shampoo / conditioner safe for color-treated hair?
  • What do you mean by "safe"? If you're wondering about fading, all shampoos will cause color-treated hair to fade. In fact, you don't even need shampoo; water alone will wash the color out of your hair. If you're having problems, the best solution is to wash your hair less frequently. The good new is, you can use any shampoo that you like.
  • Yes, PurpleRules,

I was worried about fading. I was wondering if certain shampoos really prevent fading. I know I should probably wash less frequently (I currently shampoo everyday). It's hard to change my routine - I'm so used to this. Thanks.
  • I've learned to live with only washing my hair every other day. I'd rather wash it daily; it's fine and straight and looks best when it's just been washed and styled but the color fades like mad if I do that. It's a tradeoff and I decided I'd rather have my color look good. I've gotten a lot better at styling second day hair but it took a while to get the hang of it. I still can't stand how it feels at the end of the second day though.
  • A technology that does work to keep color in hair is Tresemme Color Retention spray.  It actually reacts with the color to keep it bound better to the hair.  But no shampoo or conditioner (rinse out) will make much difference.
  • Left Brain - Thank you for the info. I will look for the Tresemme spray to use.

PurpleRules - I know exactly how you feel about second day hair. Sometimes I can go every other day without washing in the winter months, but it is hard to get used to it. Thanks for your thoughts.
