I was scouring CVS's shampoo section looking for the Organix coconut shampoo (which they didn't have; the search continues) but I did find something called no-rinse shampoo. I took a closer look because neither of my kids rinse the shampoo out of their hair completely. Here are the directions and the ingredients:
Directions: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Apply generously until hair is completely wet. Massage to a rich lather. Immediately towel dry with an absorbent towel. Repeat for heavily soiled hair. No Rinse Shampoo can be used as often as necessary.
Has anyone heard of or used this? I doubt it gets your hair really and truly clean but it would be nice to have a quick fix for mornings when you're in a rush.
No, this is a new one for me, too, PR. Where do you suppose the dirt and oils go? Interesting.
I guess I feel like if I'm going to have to wet down my hair, then I'm going to have to style it so ....in for a penny, in for a pound: Might as well use good ol' shampoo and conditioner, like always.
Did you end up buying it? If so, let us know if your boys' hair looks and smells clean!
I didn't buy it. It was $9 for 16 oz, which was more than I was willing to spend on something I knew nothing about. I googled it; the reviews are mixed.
We're actually aware of this product and have tried different versions. Anonymousblonde is correct that if you used it exclusively, you would experience build up. However, this product could work pretty well for someone who wants to wash their hair less often. For example, if you wash your hair 7 times a week, maybe you could cut that down to 4 times a week and use this product 2 or 3 times. We really don't need to wash our hair nearly as much as we do (unless you use styling products everyday).
So this product might be the perfect touch-up product for you. Or maybe not. It's a bit awkward to use. Foam up your head, towel it off and style. It just feels weird not to be doing that in the shower.
They've got it and a no-rinse conditioner and no-rinse body bath on drugstore.com for much less than it is at CVS. I've got some drugstore dollars too. Maybe I'll try them all.
Boy that would have been superhelpful today! I stayed over night at my job last night and chose stupidly to not wash my hair in the shower this AM and after about 3 hours I realized I really needed to so here I am standing over the sink washing my hair with crappy 2-in-1 shampoo (I loathe 2-in1 stuff). And seriously as I was washing it out I kept saying to myself I HAVE to put this in the no-rinse thread! Perhaps one day I'll try it!
I'm curious whether you know that almost all of the Pantene shampoo formulas are of the 2-in-1 variety even though they don't call them that? Also, brands like Herbalessences, Fructis and Dove are 2-in-1 formulas too. They just don't call them that.
You know a shampoo is a 2-in-1 by looking at the ingredient list. If you see "Dimethicone" or "Amodimethicone", you're probably using a 2-in-1 shampoo without knowing it.
interesting .. i've never heard of a wet no-rinse shampoo, but i know there's a dry shampoo used in hospitals, to help the bed-riddon patients, the water-phobic people, and to wash cats. it's like flakes that are rubbed in and brushed out, but i've never tried the stuff myself.
That dry shampoo is supposed to be fabulous for making dirty hair look a bit cleaner and super thick. I've never used it, but I've considered it. I think Bumble and Bumble makes some. You buy it to match your hair color.
I've been researching diff. versions of dry shampoo, and so far the cheapest one I found was called Klorane Extra Gentle Dry Shampoo..
the reviews on folica.com is mostly good, with the complaints all about the product completely drying out while in the can..
have any of you tried it? I have oily hair, but my hair is also color treated, so I don't like washing it everyday.. but it's kinda gross when my bangs get all oily and it's not really easy to hide.. :P
The original powdered shampoo came out in the 70's. You can still buy it. It's called Pssssst!
Basically, you are spraying corn starch in your hair. It absorbs the oil and then you're supposed to comb it out. If you don't get a colored product (just white) your hair can look a bit like you've got dandruff.
I'm not sure these no-rinse powdered ones will attract many people.
Left Brain, I hate to betray my age, but in fact the first powdered shampoo was called Minipoo, and I recall that it was around in the fifties. It was beloved by those moms who firmly believed that washing your daughter's hair when she had a cold would lead to pneumonia or worse! (And it was totally gross.)
Hm.. You know, this would sell to super traditional Chinese/Taiwanese ladies. We have this thing where a majority of women still do after pregnancy, which is basically, the woman stay in bed for a whole month. No getting up to take care of the baby (the grandma or a hired help does it), no holding the baby or anything heavy for an extended amount of time, and NO showers/hair washes. They can only do sponge bathes!!! My mom said that now they are allowed to wash their hair, but if they do they have it wrap it up immediately, and NO blow drying.
Dry rinses would definitely help those women.
And yes, they have to do it for a full month. My cousins would just get a bunch of DVDs to watch for a whole month. =P
And no, scientifically it hasn't proved to really help, but theoretically it helps the mom's body recuperate and become new again. Theory goes that after a woman gives birth, her whole body has the chance of starting new. Also, according to my mom, it helps menopause be less painful, but I'm not too sure about that, because when she went through menopause, it was painful for me! Jk Jk.. =P
OMG: I found Pssssst! at the store. The can is EXACTLY the same as how it looked when I was in high school. Maybe the manufacturer thought there was an advantage to leaving it that way to catch Baby Boomers' attention. If that's the case, it sure worked on me!
I bought Pssssst! for my friend as a gag joke because she was having her wisdom teeth out and or something along those lines and couldn't or wouldn't shower. It was $1 at Wal*Mart! I actually used it because she 'accidently' left it here when she moved to Duke....but it sucked and I think I should re-give it to her. She spends a lot of time with cadavers...no time for showering! She'd get a good chuckle out of it!
Did you ever hear of "No Rinse" shampoo? This is another one where you don't have to take a shower to wash your hair. But instead of it being a powder, it is a liquid. You foam it up on your head and use a towel to remove the foam. It actually is a little less objectionable than the powdered versions.
Even though my hair is dark, I didn't see any residue. I'm the type that really can't go through a second day without washing my hair because my roots get really greasy. BUT, my hair is colored so my ends can't go through daily washes.
That's why I was so interested in this thread!!
But... I rather spend money on pretty eyeshadows, so I got a bottle of baby powder for a buck. I put some in the palm of my handsrun it through my roots, and voila... no more grease, and TONS of volume!! I swear, my hair looked fantastic!
Then I put it up in a messy ponytail, hopped in the shower, and decide that it was a great idea to crouch down to scrub parts of the shower, and got my whole hair wet......
This stuff sounds horrible, why would any one want to leave it on. And these ingredients should definitely NOT be left on ..... the urea mixes with the parabens to release formaldehyde!!! So this should DEFIINITELY not be a Leave on product!!!!
Urea mixes with paraben? I don't think so.Perhaps you're mixing it up with a formaldehyde-releasing preservative called Diazolidinyl Urea or Imidiazolidinyl Urea. These release formaldehyde when mixed with water. Parabens have nothing to do with it at all. Also, the level of formaldehyde released will not penetrate your skin and is extremely low. Perhaps even lower than the amount of formaldehyde naturally produced by your liver after you've had a couple of shots of whiskey. Who knew Formaldehyde is natural?
alcohol intolerance (and lactose).. sometimes, I hate my parents for making me intolerant to the finer parts of life. Ice cream, cheese, and alcohol.
oh and most likely beef. I ate beef yesterday, and today I had a rash all over my body. Or.... that could have been due to using a bath and body works lotion.. but I've used it before and I was fine!! Yet, I've ate beef since I was young and I was fine most of the time......
Oh Gloria I feel so badly for you! I think I said it in another thread, but I would cry all day long if I could not eat cheese, drink a good beer, or indulge myself in a nice Grey Goose Martini (extra dirty, extra oilves) oh and I do like a good steak every now and again.
I have had allergic reactions to BBW products in the past. My mother-in-law gave me some apple one YEARS ago when we started dating and after about 3 weeks of using it, my stomach and legs were all broken out and itchy :( no fun.
