Ok, so hopefully I haven't wore out my welcome with my recent controversial discussion involving religion, but...
I recently started using soap from Bio-Botanicals (http://www.bio-botanicals.com/soap.html) It was on clearance at Pier-1, so I bought a couple bars...not sure if bar soap is the best thing to wash your face with, seeing as it has been drying out my face and then becoming very oily when i wake up in the morning.
My mom always used Noxzema and still has amazing skin. A lot of other people rave about Original Noxzema and how wonderful it is. So I guess i'm just seeking more opinions, who uses it, and if it helps acne or aggravates acne...because at this point I am frustrated with facial cleansers and should probably find a cheap replacement from bar soap, as I have heard is not good to wash your face with.
Everyone's skin handles products differently but from a scientific standpoint and based on studies, Camphor, menthol and eucalyptus can be irritating to the skin and cause inflammation which could result in more skin problems and even acne. Bar soaps are also not recommended because the ingredients that keep them solid can sometimes cause breakouts. The best soap for skin is fragrance free and liquid. Try Olay sensitive skin gentle foaming cleanser, this can be found at any US drugstore and is cheap! Oh and it also does great at removing makeup.
I second the Olay recommendation. It's about $4 with tax and lasts a good while. You do have to rub it between your hands a bit for it to foam, though. I though that was strange because it's a "foaming" cleanser...anyway! It's a good product.
Interestingly enough, Noxzema & Olay were (until recently) both produced by the same company...P&G. They sold off Noxzema earlier this year to a competitor.
I've never used Noxzema but I know my skin is very similar to my mother's so we tend to do well with the same products. (Neither of us like Olay products, by the way. ) If your skin is similar to your mother's and she likes Noxzema, I'd give it a shot. The idea of using soap on my face is horrifying but I have very dry skin.
Thanks for all the recommendations. I have actually tried the Olay Gentle Fash Wash, for quite a while, but my skin doesn't seem to like SLS very much. I have been using Noxzema for 3 days, but as with anything else you need to give something more time before you can determine if you skin likes it or not. Personally, I love how Noxzema feels on my face and it helps me wake up in the morning when i'm in the shower. Here is what I found on some of the ingredients in Noxzema...
Soybean Oil: full of fatty acids. Fatty acids are absolutely key in maintaining and restoring the health and the balance of the skin. In addition, soybean oil is absolutely bursting with specific anti-oxidants that have been proving in maintaining skin health and helping keep that special glow. Anti-oxidants such as Vitamin E and Vitamin B complex are key to helping restore the radiance and the natural beauty of skin. Vitamin and Vitamin B complex are also instrumental in helping to control and to prevent the development and the appearance of wrinkles.
Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil: anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, decongestant, deodorant, antiseptic, antibacterial, stimulating, and other medicinal properties
Camphor: stimulant, anti spasmodic, anti septic, decongestant, anesthetic, sedative and nervous pacifier, anti neuralgic, anti inflammatory, disinfectant, insecticide, etc.
Menthol: ability to treat indigestion, respiratory problems, headache, nausea, fever, stomach and bowel spasms and pain
Based on the ingredients and their properties, I can only assume it's good for you skin...?
