Who's afraid of Lead in their Lipstick?
  • Recently, I wrote about the myth of Lead in your lipstick causing cancer.

But yesterday there was a story on the wires about how lead has been detected in lipsticks. It's just an example of how certain consumer groups try to scare the bejesus out of an unsuspecting public.

Yes it's true that trace amount of lead are found in some lipsticks. But that doesn't mean it is a problem for the health of women around the country (or world). I remain skeptical until I see some research which shows trace amount of lead in lipstick is causing people to get sick or having some other negative health effect.

What do you think? Should we be afraid of lead in our lipsticks?
  • I heard this on the morning radio and immediately thought of your article!!!!

I also then thought of how when I was younger, I was told that department store lipsticks don't have as much lead in them as drug store brands, and that's why drug store brands should be avoided. I was just like.. yea.. right..

and I was only 10 or 11.. HAHAHAA
  • A skeptical beauty brain at 10, I love it!
  • Enough already with the Lead in Lipstick. I had lunch with a friend of mine yesterday and she was all over this. I tried to tell her that this has been debunked but she seemed genuinely concerned so I will have to re-assure her by sending her the BB link.
  • I'm not afraid of that. There are more scary things in the world.
