Can we complain about mascara advertising???
  • I love mascara. It's probably my favorite makeup item and I use it almost every day. Hence, I tend to notice masara ads when I'm flipping through a magazine and they make me so mad! How can they legally show these ridiculous photos as an example of their product??? The eyelashes in the photos are so fake it's insane. I forget which one it was, but the eyelashes were literally thick, black triangles in the ad. It's not even like they are a set of fake lashes (even fake lashes look much more real than these) or lashes that were extended beyond belief; they look like someone took a sharpie and drew fat, black triangles on the girl's eyes! Am I the only one who notices how insane these pictures are?
  • You're not the only one who notices. The ads are ridiculous. But companies are not necessarily getting away with it. L'Oreal just got in trouble this summer in the UK for faking their eyelash ads. They claim it is standard industry practice. I guess the industry will have to change that now.
  • Yay! I'm so happy to hear that! I read that article you posted, but even those lashes are not as crazy as the ad I recently saw. I'll have to look it up and find out which brand it was, because it was way worse than that one with Penelope Cruz.

    Thanks for the info!
  • Here's a good example. These don't even look like eyelashes! They're big, fat triangles.

  • so that's what you mean .. reminds me of these japanese novelty paste-on eyelashes. i have no idea how to find that one blog article i read about them .. but this one company makes absolutely bizarre lashes, that are made from ostrich feathers, or something similar to that. catipilar eyes.
  • Are you thinking of Shu Uemora's Tokyo Lash Bar Collection? I must admit that I'd love to try the purple ones. Unfortunately, I rarely have the opportunity to get all dolled up these days.
  • Those are so cool! And Halloween is one of the ultimate "all dolled up" occasions. You should totally go all-out, Purple. The other day to be over-the-top, in my opinion, is New Years Eve. I LOVE New Years!

MAC has feather lashes right now, too; I saw them in the store last week. They may be cheaper than Shu Uemora, too.
  • I love using falsies for halloween, unfortunately this halloween is going to be spent at a wedding for me....
  • I would love to put together an awesome costume but we didn't get invited to any Halloween parties:(
  • Then throw a party PurpleRules!!!!

or go to a club and boogie the night away!!!!

my friend went to japan and came back with a billion fake lashes.. apparently in Japan, girls not only put falsies on their top lash line, they also put them on the bottom lash line!!
  • I don't think it would be problem with regular falsies, but wouldn't the weight of the feather and rhinestones on the more costumey ones bother you? I think lashes on the bottom would feel strange too. It must be hard to get them on so they look natural. Or maybe they're not supposed to look natural...
  • hasn't anyone noticed that oprah doesn't appear to be wearing fake lashes lately? maybe they're just eyelash extensions now. her eyes looked nice (definitely more than just mascara) but the long lashes weren't there the other day when i caught her show.
