Curling iron doesnt curl my hair. Is heat rollers better?
  • So i'm having a hair problem.
I bought a curling iron to curl my hair but it doesnt curl my hair whatsoever. I dont know why. Ive tried everything, but to no avail. I used curling product that also stiffens the hair and tried it wet and dry.
Its called the Remington CI550 Curls Curls Curls.
Its a titanium ceramic curler and it heats up to 180 max.

I'm not sure what kind of hair I have. but its long straight, medium brown and caucasian straight, not heavy Asian straight if you know what I mean.
So i really dont know why its so hard to curl.
I tried the michelle phan/vintage socks and paper approach too, and that didn't work either. wet, dry with a hair dryer and with product.

Can someone recommend something that will definitely curl my hair, that isn't too expensive. I was thinking of heat rollers?
When i plait my hair it does come out wavy.
Does anyone know of a website that sells -excellent- heat rollers, ships overseas?
  • A little about my hair -- It's straightish, fine in texture but there is a lot of it, and doesn't hold a curl from a curling iron for more than 4-5 hours. Maybe. If nothing touches it. It does, however, hold a curl with hot rollers or regular air-dry curlers.

I use tresemme curl activating spray (from the thermal/heat line, I don't recall the exact name) -- it comes in a spray pump with a red cap but doesn't quite look like hairspray -- and that seems to provide a good hold for me when I use heat rollers. And it's only like $5. When you use it make sure to blast your hair with a blowdryer after spraying that stuff on -- you want your hair to be dry so it doesn't fry.

I'm not sure if they sell it overseas. Sorry I'm not more help with that.

These work to curl my curling iron resistant hair, but they only come in one size. They're cheap, though. I'm planning on buying a different set so I can have bigger, more wave-like curls.

Here are these curlers in action -- they're confusing unless you see how they work.

    Hope that helps.
  • It seems like I got my rollers (listed above) cheaper. Or at least the shipping was less when I got them (its $10 now!!!). You may need to dig a bit to find a better deal (that goes for most of these kinds of products on Amazon).
  • Hot rollers work!

I think it's because they heat your hair in a curl shape, and then allow it to cool in the same position, which I was told was key for setting a style. Once you try hot rollers, you'll never go back! I got a set of Revlon brand hot rollers for $25 Cdn at London Drugs.
  • Best curls are made by putting good, old fashion hard plastic curlers (smooth with little holes) in your hair right after washing it. Then put on a hair net and dry with a hair dryer.
People get all snooty about it because it's "so old fashion" and one person actually compared it to putting lead based makeup on your face, but it's still the absolute best way to get your hair curly. Then you use sponge rollers at night before bed to keep it curly.
If you're lucky you can even get a working vintage hooded hair dryer cheap on eBay. I did. It's AWESOME. WAY better then using a handheld one cause you can sit and read while your hair dries.
  • Re: using a curling iron: I know more about straightening irons, and I know that different models vary in how hot they will get. I have one that reaches 430 degrees F. You might shop for a curling iron iron that gets hotter. But any iron is going to do more heat damage to your hair than curlers, so curlers definitely have an advantage there.
  • I was told that heat rollers break in a relatively short period of time--is there a such thing as a long lasting heat rollers set--and if there is please tell me the name of it---and how long do you have to leave them in your hair to curl and do they cause any heat damage--thank you
