How incredibly disappointed I am in Paula. Usually she's not so easily snowed by BS.
First she says that the formula "...stands a very good chance of making eyelashes longer and darker. It contains mostly water, water-binding agents, pH adjuster, slip agent, preservative, film-forming agents, and the "active" ingredient, which is listed as 7-(3, 5-dihydroxy-2-(3-hydroxy-4-(3-(triflormethyl) phenoxy)-1-butenyl) cyclopentyl), N-ethyl, )1R-(alpha(Z), 2beta (1E,3R), 3alpha, 5alpha))."
Then she goes on to say the ingredient "...is similar to a class of ingredients known as prostaglandin analogues. These drugs, including latanoprost, bimatoprost, and travoprost, are used to treat eye health problems such as glaucoma or ocular hypertension. One of the common side-effects of ocular administration of eye drops containing prostaglandin analogues is growth and darkening of the eyelashes."
Alright, if the ingredient that is in the Jan Marini product has ANY effect on hair growth then the product is an illegal drug. It doesn't matter if it is an analog compound or not. Drugs are chemicals that affect cellular metabolism. If a chemical is going to make hair grow, it's an illegal drug. Paula should know better than to recommend this product. :fierce:
STOP NOW GIRLS!!!!!!!!!!! I didnt even read the whole comments here because I have the answer!!!!!!! I have always wanted to find a product that works and now I have it and IT ACTUALLY DOES WORK!!!
LOVE IT.... I'm running to the bathroom to get the bottle for the details . . . ..
ok back... It's called "Double-Lash" and its make by a company called Mavala. It's french (of course). It's clear and you put it on like mascara and it really works!!! This is one of my best finds. Anyway, I found it somewhere on the internet and from what I remember there is varying prices out there for it, I paid like 30 dollars or so.
Enjoy!! Let me know if any of you try this!!

Another great product is Keracyte (www.keracyte.com). My friend spent a few years teaching English in Asia and I heard that is what a lot of the women there use for lengthening and thickening their eyelashes. This product is less expensive and you get more of the product than Jan Marino's, plus its very safe. The ingredients are similar and even milder than an eye serum product the company makes for wrinkle reduction.
Well, like I wrote in my mineral makeup posting--Paula is not on the mark on it all.
I would be very careful about what you choose to believe. Also, her "line" looks a lot like something I have thought of private labeling myself.
buenos dias,
Lynnette
I got a pamplet on Jan Marini's Age Intervention Eyelash Conditioner. I thought this statement was interesting:
"Users will perceive that their lashes appear fuller and more lustrous."
Perceive.
No studies to back up all the promises, I guess.
It's tough because sometimes a few people experience different results than others when using a product. What works for me may not do a darn thing for you and vice versa.
That product that I mentioned, Keracyte, is actually a scalp conditioner that stimulates the hair follicles to produce thicker and stronger hairs in the person's natural color. It's been very successful for that, and then women started using it on their eyelashes to see if it would help. They just applied a dab of the product across the part of their eyelid where the lashes grow, and voila. Many of them saw success with darker and thicker / longer lashes.
The formulation is very mild and gentle, and safe for eyes, as it contains many of the same ingredients in Intensive Eye Serum, a wrinkle reducer, by the same brand.
The company offers Keracyte at $160 for 1.7 oz, which is a lot more product than you used to get when ordering from Jan Marini. It's tempting and I may give it a shot because my lashes are shorter than I would like. I am tired of feeling like I can't ever leave the house without mascara!!
I have a question. In my field of work (I'm a nanny) I am around children all the time. I have noticed a trend in children's eyelashes being so long and luxurious and I find myself being super jealous of the 3 year old boy I watch. But so many children that I have come across over the past 13-14 years have amazing eyelashes. Could it be due to pre-natal vitamins? I doubt my mother took them when she was pregnant with myself and siblings. Just curious.
It's tough to really know if children's eyelashes are really longer now. Perhaps you just notice them more. Or maybe you notice the ones with really long eyelashes and filter out the ones that don't have them.
To really learn something, you should start with the opposite of what you think is true and try to prove it. When you can't, you may have learned something. For example, in this case start with the hypothesis that children's eyelashes are not longer than adult's. Try to find examples that it is true. If you can't, then maybe you're on to something. Remember, since children's heads are smaller, it might make their eyelashes look longer. You might need to actually measure.
Browneyed,
Color me skeptical on the Keracyte...especially at a whopping $160!! Yikes!
If the product does work as it says, then it is stimulating hair growth which would make it an untested, potentially unsafe drug. Jan Marini's product just got seized by authorities for this exact problem.
If it isn't a drug, then the product doesn't actually work and wouldn't be worth the $160. There are ways for Keracyte to market this drug by going through the proper channels of the FDA and doing all the required safety testing. To say that the product is safe without proper drug screening is just not right.
But if you're curious, feel free to try it out. To see if it's really doing something you should apply it only to one eye and see if the eyelashes on that one grows longer than the untreated eye. We've suggested this before but no one has been willing to try.
Thanks Left Brain - I will definitely let you guys know what I decide. I am flat broke right now. :-) I think since it contains the same ingredients as an anti-wrinkle product for eyes, that it should be safe for eyes, but I can see your concern too! I like the idea of just applying to one eye so you can see results, etc. I'll check back if I end up using it! :-)
I just joined The Beauty Brains to inquire about this subject of eyelash growth. I have very short eyelashes, I wouldn't say sparse but very short. I have been getting eyelashes extensions for about 3 years now and I'm starting to wonder about the long term effect these are having on my eyelashes and eyes (and bank account). My mom, with the same puny lashes, told me about Revitalash and her success with it since she stopped getting extensions. I read some different articles and found that some people had some irritation with the Revitalish product so I bought the Lil Lash ($140). I haven't gotten it yet but was wondering if anyone here has tried it or heard anything about it. In addition, is it ok to keep getting extensions while using the product until my lashes get longer?
If anyone has any info for me that would be wonderful!
For $3.99 it is totally worth trying! It's not likely to work but at least you aren't out $150 like with Jan Marini or Revitalash. I say go for it. But keep a critical eye on whether it's working or not.
Mavala is actually a swiss product, so realy cheap here and I'm going to buy some of that Double lash NOW-lol. Listen to this boneheaded story, one month before my wedding ( I was 22) some professional told me that eyelashes fall out anyway and if one cut them at a certain rise/wane of the moon, they grow back much lusher and thicker.Well, you can guess what stoopid yours truly did . So I have lashes but thin, spiky ones so any thing about eyelashes interests me.
Just read on google news that the FDA has found that a medical product used for glaucoma makes eyelashes grow thicker and longer? the brains input please?
