Obey Your Body Original Dead Sea Minerals
  • Ok, so after a really crappy day. I was pretty bummed out and feeling...well crappy. I decided to go shopping after work. I was leaving after spending tons of money and I was approached by a sales girl from a kiosk selling this product Obey Your Skin. She was trying to get me to buy the hand buffing set and then noticed my lovely oily acne gross face and proceeded to demonstrate this Advanced Peeling Gel. She claims that it is all natural and made with dead sea minerals...It was interesting because it was a gel and when she applied it to my arm and gently massaged it...it became like water...as she said and then waited 5 seconds and started massaging it again for about a minute and she claimed that it was cleaning, purifying and removing dead skin cells. It looked like it was removing dead skin and my skin is soft. She said you only use it once a week.

I told her I was going to do some research...aka ask you guys before I went back :)

Has anyone ever used this product before and is it worth $140?
  • I can't find the ingredients online, nor am I familiar with the brand.

However, I did come across a purifying gel from AHAVA that also contains Dead Sea minerals. My sister introduced me to the brand when she went to Israel, and I just remember that the lotion smells extremely strong, but was really moisturizing.

Anyhow.. The purifying gel from AHAVA is only $25.. why not compare the 2 products side by side if you can find ingredients to both.. yes yes, formulation is important, but no one is gonna share their formulas!!!
  • I had this face stuff from ICE Elements that Ibought on HSN (I was bored and up late, okay?) that sounds like that scrub. No dead sea salt though. It was called "2-Minute Miracle Exfoliating Gel". I can't say if I really felt like it exfoliated, I think it was like rubbing glue off your hands, the white stuff that supposedly was dead skin. My face felt softer, but I think that was just the Aloe in it. Anyway here is the HSN page (it's only $20 from them), the ingredients, and the manufacturer's page:

    HSN: http://tinyurl.com/2ozalu

Ingredients: Stabilized Aloe Vera, Butylenes Glycol, Carbomer, Clycerin, Sodium Hydroxide, Hyaluronic Acid, Green Tea Extract, Burdock Root Extract, Ginseng Extract, Calendula, Benzophone 4, Propylene Glycol, Proplyparaben, Methylparaben, Diasolidnyl Urea, Cyanocobalamin

    Manufacturer's page: http://www.iceelements.com/
  • Oh yeah, and a link to the manufacturer of the gel in question (at least I think this is what you are talking about):

  • I looked at the ingredients, but was pretty sure they would be listed on the web...sadly I was mistaken.

Mtrimier--yes, there was white stuff and it was like rubbing off glue.

But it sounds like there are similar products out there. Maybe I'll try a different brand, because I really did like how my skin felt and it still feels nice today after sleeping and showering it's still extremely soft.

    Thank you.
  • FWIW: i tried googling it last night and couldn't find reviews by anyone. (I usually put the name of the product in quotes and add the word "reviews". usually works...but not this time.) is this a new product?
  • I did the same thing too. It may be a new product...but they have a ton of products in their line...
  • Was the kiosk selling only products in this line? I wonder if there's a kiosk in the mall near me that sells it. Usually I speed up when approached by kiosk sales people -- they can be VERY aggressive -- but I'm curious now.
  • PurpleRules--yes they were only selling products in that line. I usually look interested in something like a hang nail when I am walking near kiosks, but I was totally feeling crappy and inadequate because my husband was at a Maxim Magazine Party for business and a rough day at work...blah! He called me as I was snarfing down a heavily garlicked slice of pizza and invited me...lol! I digress. Anyway, I was vulnerable, but not that vulnerable to buy it!
  • I too found myself at the mall after a crappy week but I didn't buy anything because I'm flat broke. (I spent over 1K on my car this month so I don't have two dimes to rub together.) I did meet a very nice and very helpful SA at Blue Mercury so I'm planning on going back after I get paid on Wednesday. I'll check if the kiosk I'm thinking of is for "Obey your body."

So, what happens at a Maxim Magazine party? I have an image in my mind based on what I know about the magazine and it's not pretty....
  • Ummm, he said there was a lot of free Bud Light ugh...and some very pretty women there. He has his own marketing and promotions company and he went wih a few guys from another company that do work with us. Thank goodness there were other hot guys to take the attention away from my husband! lol! He said there was this one guy who was like 23 and a complete 'chick magnet'...the girls would come up to him and ask him out...strange. He actually said it wasn't that much fun...and would have rather stayed home and watched 'The Office' with me. He's super!
  • Girls, no exfoliating product is worth $140! Minerals from the Dead Sea is just a marketing gimmick and they really don't have any special effect in the formula.

Think about it. What exactly would Dead Sea minerals be doing that "regular" minerals wouldn't be doing? What are Dead Sea minerals anyway? Salt?

I'm certain it is a perfectly fine product. But you could certainly get the same effect by finding a reasonably priced exfoliating product at your local Target or other drug store. Try St. Ives Apricot scrub, Dove, Olay, Neutrogena, etc.

If you're spending more than $20 on this kind of product, you are wasting your money.
  • Left Brain--I thought it was ridiculous too. I didn't purchase it. And I was skeptical about the whole dead sea stuff too...that's why I came here:smile:

    Thanks :)
  • extra concentrated... salt?!??
  • St. Ives Apricot Scrub that Left Brain mentioned always seems to make those "best" lists.
  • I use the St. Ives to exfoliate my legs pre-shave sometimes
  • Walking through the mall everyone knows it's annoying when people from the kiosks ask you "may i see your hand" or "may i show you something". Usually it drives me nuts. One day i was at the mall with my boyfriend and a woman asked us if she could see our hands. She pointed out how i had ridges on my nails and thats why the break and don't grow. I still wasnt impressed. She asked me if she could try something on me and i said ok. She used a 4 sided buffer on my nail. After a minute or so she applied the oil and my nail was incredibly smooth. I really liked the product. I asked her if using this daily would help my nails grow. Let me tell you i have tried alot to get my nails to grow. She said use the buffer once a week and watch the difference. So i asked my boyfriend nicely and he bought the kit for me. The kiwi lotion smells amazing! So i have been using the buffer and what do you know, my nails are growing!! Im a huge skeptic but seriously my nails are so healthy now. Maybe the jello in my diet is helping too but seriously it looks like im wearing clear nail polish when im wearing nothing on my nails. It looks like a professional manicure! All i do is once a week i use the black, white then shiny grey side on every nail. Every other night if i remember i use the shiny grey side only. The cuticle oil is nice too. It keeps the cuticles back and isnt greasy what so ever. Give it a try!
  • I believe you, Obey4Me! I've read many times that simply massaging your nails every day increases the blood flow to them so buffing them would have that effect, as well as enhancing their shine. I notice a difference in mine (growth and strength) when I consistently rub NutraNail's formulas into them. It's so easy to do when you watch TV at night.
  • I stopped using buffers because they make my nails break.I have fairly long nails, which i am very proud of, and they are quite ridged. I hadn't used one for a while and had very long and strong nails. I had got a base varnish with a buffer and remembered how nice and shiny it made my nails look.
I got very pretty nails but before long 5 of them broke, and i had to cut them all off and to make sure that they are not too weak, I am still growing them out... It's been about 2 months now, and I really regret using that buffer and should have stuck with putting cream on my hands every night ( I use pure raw mango butter because it's cheap, it absorbs quickly and I really like the s smell of it)
  • I actually broke down one day and bought the dead sea salt stupid face peel and moisturizer.  I spent $80, used it one time and really didn't like how it felt on my face so I took it back 3 days later.  They would not accept the return because the man that sold it to me had been transferred to another store in a mall 40 minutes from me and I had to return it throguh him or through their main office...where I got a hold of absolutely no one.
Ladies Do NOT purchase any product from this company unless you plan on keeping it.  I'm out $80 and have a crappy product.

it just makes me sad that there are companies out there that have no problem scamming people.  Lesson Learned!
  • I would hunt that man down, make him give me my money back and then slash his tires. Okay, maybe not slash his tires. Seriously, I hope you've gone to every site where customers can review products and left a well-written but scathing review.
  • I have not PR but I definitely will.  Been ultra busy trying to clear out the kitchen for Demo On Monday!  YAY! New Kitchen!
