I was wondering if anyone has tried any products from Boscia? I am intrigued by their "preservative free message".
I was thinking of trying their Willow Bark Breakout Treatment, since I can't tolerate one of my acne meds anymore, but wondered if any of you had any experience you would like to share about the brand. Here are the ingredients for the treatment, in case of curiosity:wink:
I've seen this brand around somewhere.. and well.. to me, any company that claims conventional cosmetics are rubbish are well.. rubbish in my eyes!!
it's like that saying.. cliches are cliches for a reason.. preservatives are used to keep yucky germs and fungi away, so that's why it's industry standard to use them..
it's 1 thing to use "natural" preservatives, but to claim they don't have any preservatives or not even use any preservatives is just yucky!!
especially yucky when there's so many goodies that microbes would LOVE to eat in their products!!
i know. it doesn't make sense to me either, but the name kept coming up around me.
the woman that rear ended me a few weeks ago, for some reason recommended their blotting papers when I told her i was on my way to Lush and Sephora, and the last thing i need is more foolishness with my face. Just wanted to see if anyone had any experience or got weirdness from them like I did.
i like preservatives and "use by" dates make me feel pressured.
The editors of their website scare me. Did you see their explanation of Why no preservatives? They number their list 1,2,3,4,6. What happened to 5?
That is just a minor amusement.
Let's look at their entire list of Preservative straw men.
1. Not true. While it's true that preservatives do function to prevent microbial growth it's not the ONLY reason they are used. For example some preservatives have other effects such as giving the product a fragrance (phenoxyethanol), making products tear-free (benzyl alcohol), and acting as a solubilizer (alcohol).
2. Of course there are other benefits (see above). Also, the benefit of preventing microbial growth is that consumers won't get contaminated with disease causing microbes.
3. True some people have a bad reaction to preservatives. But not most people. People are allergic to lots of things. For example, some people can die from eating peanuts
4. There's no proof that preservatives used in the levels found in cosmetics would have these effects.
5. missing.
6. I wouldn't use products without preservatives. Even if they are fine when they leave the manufacturing plant, every time you open the container, there's another chance for contamination. Microbes are everywhere. Without preservatives you're safer to just throw the products away.
And you shouldn't "borrow" someone else's makeup either. We've all got our own microbes that live fine on our bodies but might not be so nice to someone else.
