Hot cloth facial cleansers

First time I came across a great hot cloth based face cleanser from Eve Lom, then Karin Herzog and now seems there is a hot cloth cleanser in every skin care line.
Does is mean they are all pretty much the same and the secret is in washing with cloth dipped in hot water, following with cold to close the pores? I am sure they differ according to ingredients in them, but is it worth paying for Eve Lom if I can use Soap and Glory to do the same job? -
I've always heard that the "closing pores" thing is a myth and you can't actually make them close. Though hot water is good for breaking up oils that are blocking them, I'm sure. Just like you use hot water to clean a pan you just fried something in to melt the grease away.
