how to make permed hair more curly?
  • I have curly hair (permed) and I would like to know what ingredient in hair product shall I look for that can make my curl more curly, more nervous. Or what technique to dry (now I diffuse)
My hair are natural color light blond, fine.
    Thank you
    Gloria
  • Magnesium Sulfate can help boost curl so can the amino acids Taurine and Glutamic Acid. The Pro-Vitamin B5 (Panthenol) or Panthenyl Ethyl Ether may also help. It also helps to keep the hair clean but moist and avoid too many products or too much product on the hair. Also, you could try this: after washing/conditioning bend forward so your head is hanging down and gently finger-comb hair forward, pull a hair net over your hair and fasten, let your hair settle loosely on top of your head and let it dry this way. Magnesium Sulfate is Epsom Salts and you could get it in any drugstore, just add a small pinch to a bottle of your favorite shampoo or conditioner and allow it to dissolve overnight, shake the next day to mix.
  • I have naturally wavy/curly hair myself. I suggest you go do some reading on the naturallycurly.com website. Even though your curl comes from your hair being permed you can still use the information you will find there.

What I have found that works for me is to shampoo only every third day with a no sulfate shampoo (my scalp does not react well to sulfates). The rest of the time I wash my hair with a no silicone conditioner (I like VO5 Vanilla Mint best - Suave Naturals Coconut second best), comb through in the shower, rinse throughly. I wrap a towel around my head to catch all the drips and keep my lotion application out of my hair. Then I remove the towel, shake my hair loose gently with my fingers and scrunch a pea sized dab of coconut oil into it. Then I 'plop' (google it to find out how!) into a microfiber towel for a few minutes while I apply makeup. I bend over, remove the microfiber towel and scrunch a mixture of clear aloe gel and clear hair gel (with no silicones) into my hair. I scrunch again with the microfiber towel to set the curl pattern. Then I use a dryer with a diffuser to dry it somewhat, all while bent over at the waist. When it is dry enough...that took some figuring...how dry does it need to be..answer it is different for each person....I stand up straight, turn the dryer off, scrunch with my hands a bit more, add clips to the crown to keep it from going flat and let it air dry for a few minutes. The roots dry quickly that way. Once the roots are dry I remove the clips and just let the rest of it air dry. I don't touch it until it is completely dry. Then I bend over scrunch, straighten back up and run my fingers into it at the scalp and shake the curl loose.

Sorry for that being so long. It is hard to describe, not hard to do!

Maybe what is missing is a gel to help the curls stay formed? What sort of products are you currently using?
