Alright, I'm trying to put together a half hour program for my TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meeting for Wenesday. I wanted to do it on the book Eat Right For Your Type, debunking it. I tried WebMD but they only have two short pages.
Now Google works on and off for me. Sometimes I find things right off, sometimes it takes months to find what I want. I've tried all sorts of search terms, but most of the websites I found are weird or vegitarian sites and none seem to be debunking the book. I found one other but I'm not sure it's enough.
It would be nice to find one nice, indepth article about why ERFYT is a load of hooey and how blood types do not determine what kind of diet you should have.
There should be some facts or recommended weight control advice on this site http://win.niddk.nih.gov/ but I'm not sure where on the site. If you click on the publications section and scroll down to the bottom, they have an 800 number you can contact for information.
I found this on one of the sites I like called "Quackwatch." http://www.quackwatch.org/04ConsumerEducation/NegativeBR/d%27adamo.html Hope it helps!
You're welcome. I didn't use Google, though, just checked out the sites I like. You might enjoy Quackwatch. I have the same problem--whenever I want to find a critique of something, I come up with thousands of articles touting the quack-fad idea/technique I'm trying to find a critique on. And don't even try to search for "candidiasis" on google. You'll have nothing but "rid your body of candida" sites.
I was thinking...if you run short on material, you could draw on the articles in this site and broaden your topic to include other dubious weight loss methods. Again, it's part of the quackwatch sites. I like the "myths vs facts" information sheet.
Oh thanks!
I'm suppose to do one program a month. So that one I'll keep. I know next month I'm going to focus a bit on body images using a book containing pictures of anorexic women and the book You'd Be So Pretty If. I'm hoping, even though all the women there have grown daughters, it'll help them realize that they're passing on bad ideas to their daughters. Besides my mom and me there's another two members who are mother & daughter (and one mother & son) - and the moms, including mine, can all be very verbally abusive. The one mother (not mine) kept telling her daughter at a recent TOPS convention how awful she looked in the dress she was wearing. (And yes, it did make her look heavier as it had a lot of ruffles, was sleeveless, and had a big pattern on it. But she didn't need to hear that all day long.)
Check out the american heart association's website, I was actually just searching this for my own reasons a few nights ago and they had a lot of sensible information.
Thanks LeLa. I did the program last night and it seemed to go over well. Next month I'm going to do body images. But after that I don't know what I'll do. I'm suppose to do one once a month. So I'll keep that in mind.
