Meladerm Skin Lightening Cream
  • Hyperpigmentation - My nemesis! No matter what SPF I slather on (currently using Elta MD), after 2 or 3 days my skin retaliates with annoying scaliness and dry patches. Therefore, much to my chagrin, I cannot wear it everyday. I loathe the subtle brown mask that appears on the left side of my face after several weeks, especially as the warm weather months arrive, from just the simple act of driving a car! Question 1: Is Meladerm the real deal? Question 2: Do I need to wear SPF everyday while using this product therefore it's a vicious circle of brown, no brown, scales, brown, no brown, scales? Monthly glycolic peels seem to do the trick as well, but I could stand to lose the 4-day snake shedding look. Any help would be fabulous.

    Thanks!
  • Have you checked out sunscreens with only physical blocks?
  • A physical sunscreen (zinc oxide, titanium dioxide) is a good idea, but hard to find for medium toned skins (even I--I have light, but not fair, skin--look like I saw a ghost if I wear one). These days I bet you could find a good tinted moisturizer or makeup for everyday to match your skintone that has physical sunscreens in it. Here's one...http://www.paulaschoice.com/product/barely-there-sheer-matte-tint-spf-20/Complexion Yes, you do have to wear sunscreen when using skin lighteners, and I'm afraid to say the spf should ideally be 30 or higher (20-25 is better than nothing, though, if you truly cannot find a 30 spf product that agrees with your skin). Also, I'd see a dermatologist to see whether there is another skin condition you have that makes you vulnerable to the dryness and scaliness. If there was something treatable, maybe you'd find you could wear sunscreens after all. For example, when my rosacea isn't under control, a lot of things irritate me, but when it's under good control, I can use a much wider range of products without a problem.
