acne and or breakouts
  • hey everyone,
my name is rachael, and i recently broke out with a whole bunch of pimples on my face. I've never had a problem with zits at all. i have fair skin and its never really been a problem. I did however start using a new foundation called boots No7 all day flawless wear, prior to the breakout.. i have since then stopped using it and nothing seems to help...

does anyone know what could cause me to breakout soo bad, and what can i do for it?

    thanks :)
    rachael
  • I can only offer speculation... changes in diet? overwashing? over medicating (with anti-blemish products)? New medication or BC pill?

There are innumerable reasons you may have broken out. Your best bet is to go to a dermatologist. Only someone with that expertise would have a shot at pinpointing the problem.
  • Has there been a lot of stress in your life recently? How about big changes?

I remember my college roommate from first year suddenly broke out right before college, and she NEVER had skin problems before. She's dealt with it for 4 years now, and yea, she goes to a dermatologist.

    good luck!!

I also suggest SALONPAS, this patch that's similar to Icy/Hot for acne. A few of us here have tried it recently to good results. If you can't find it in an American drugstore, try an Asian grocery store.
  • Unfortunately, it only takes a couple of hours for the acne to pop up but it can take weeks for it to clear up. Don't panic and start using the harshest stuff you can get your hands on and don't start using a different set of products every day. You'll spend a fortune and dry out and irritate your skin, which will just make things worse. I don't know what you consider a "whole bunch of pimples" but I know I consider more than one a whole bunch. I have dry skin and rarely break out. Consequently, I flip out and overreact when it happens and often make things worse. The SALONPAS is excellent and the Clean-n-Clear spot treatment is good too, since you probably don't want to walk around with little pieces of salonpas stuck on your face during the day. Leave as much of your skincare routine unchanged since your skin likes "the same, same, same. And more of the same." (My dermatologist said that.) If things don't get better, you might want to go to a dermatologist. Even if you have to pay for the visit, it's less frustrating and probably cheaper then trying out a dozen new prodcuts that don't work.
  • thank you guys :)

i have been thinking about going to the dermatologist to see whats going on. there actually have been alot or changes.. i recently got a new job and i am going to school full time. i never really thought stress could really cause acne.

the SALONSPAS ? where can i get it at and how much is it?
  • I get it at CVS but I think most drugstores sell it. It will be with the over-the-counter pain meds, near stuff like icy-hot. It's about $4.50 a box, which has 40 patches. I cut off little pieces and stick'em on as I need them so they'll probably expire before I use them up.

Stress can wreak havoc with your skin. I get symmetrical acne on my torso when I'm stressed. It can take weeks or sometimes longer for it to clear up. The acne I get on my face clears up as quickly as appears.
  • Ok SALONPAS scares me...wow. It's great anywhere but near my face. Wow....I cried like I was cutting onions...no control over it. This was me. We'll see how it works though!
  • If things don't clear up within a couple of weeks, a dermatologist is your best option.
  • I had the same problem, never had bad acne
and now that I am close to 30 I get huge cyst like pimples before my period
it obviously has to do with my hormones
but I've been having my period for a while!!
So I think it is because my lifestyle has changed and it is a lot more stressful now, besides being stressed usually
leads to poor food choices and your hormones can go a litlle bit more crazy than usual.
I am sticking to a pretty aggressive routine ands still get some monster zits (I wash with a salycilic acid wash, use aveeno clear complexion treatment on my T-zone, and benzoyl peroxide as spot treatment),
so I also recommend you avoid picking at them and get very good with concealer,
between my bare escentuals and lancome efacernes concealer I can fake pretty good skin when I don't
  • In my quest to find something for my dry scalp, I came across this website for acne. I enjoyed reading what he had to say and how he manages his acne. He does sell his own products.

  • Puberty. Never washing your face. Eating greasy food with your hands then touching your face without washing your hands. You're about to start your Period (it doesn't have to be the first time). Dramatic change in climate/weather or diet.
