So I have this mole on my face that I've had since childhood, if not since birth. Being a slightly neurotic person who of late has been increasingly obsessed with skincare and beauty (and therefore studying her own skin), I got concerned that the color has lightened and is maybe a bit pinker (well, okay, true confessions, then I felt it and convinced myself it felt firmer...). Since I have a lot of moles (plus the rosacea, melasma and seborrheic keratoses--oh, my), I resolved to see my dermatologist. I'm due anyway.
I realized that I'd suggested a visit to a dermatologist to others on a number of threads. We've all been talking about sunscreens, and we know what they're for besides preventing wrinkles--prevention of skin cancer! So, let's all see a dermatologist! They'll make sure our skin is free of cancer, and at the same time, help with all our cosmetic skin issues. If you're over 30, you can ask what your evolving lumps, bumps and discolorations really are. Often, they can help separate myth from fact when it comes to skincare. I think everyone should see one. I'll be the local public service announcement. http://www.aad.org/findaderm/
And as for my mole, it might just be looking pinker because I used that retinol.
As a follow-up, it wasn't in my head about my mole being pink and firmer. I had seen the electrologist that day. She said she didn't want to treat the hair on my mole until I had a letter from my derm, but the mole has gotten so light in color that I think she didn't realize that was the mole area and she did treat one of those hairs. So it was indeed pink and swollen (as a temporary reaction to electrolysis)--but isn't anymore.
well im glad for you and your mole. tehehe. me and my mom went to the derm because my head is always itching. she gave me some shampoo and now i feel better! also, because on the back of my neck, there was this brown stuff. the derm rubbed with rubbing achohal and now its gone. your right they probably know way more then we all do!lol
