Everyone has been saying the shampoo and conditioner mix is extremely horrible, though they say nothing on the conditioner. I would very much like to know about it and maybe hear some of your expriences with the product. Also if any of you know of a organtic conditioner that is good for curly hair and inexpensive please tell me the name and store. Thanks so much in advance!
My hair is wavy/curly. Back when I used to straighten my hair every day I used to use Pantene conditioners. They work very well. I cannot speak for the shampoos as I never really used the Pantene shampoos.
I personally never cared for the shampoo and conditioner in one because my hair would end up over conditioned and flat.
Because I wanted to stop using shampoos with sulfates I no longer use Pantene conditioner. It contains silicones that are not water soluble. If you are using silicones that are not water soluble you have to use something, such as shampoo with sulfates, to remove the silicones or they tend to build up over time.
I found a lot of interesting information on the naturallycurly.com website and in a book I read about on that site called The Curly Girl Handbook by Lorraine Massey.
I now use shampoos with no sulfates. The ones I use work very well for me. I currently use Nature's Gate Organics Organic Fruit Blends Shampoo, Color Protecting, Persimmon & Rose Geranium and EO Shampoo, Nourishing Rose & Chamomile. Both smell really good which is a bonus! I only use shampoo every third day or so. I still clean my scalp every day. On the 'off' days I clean my scalp with conditioner. Meaning I 'wash' my hair in the shower using conditioner in place of shampoo. The conditioners I use are super inexpensive. Suave Naturals Coconut and Alberto VO5 Vanilla Mint are my favorites. I use a dryer with a diffuser to dry my hair a bit and then let it air dry.
Although I spend more on the shampoos now I find that overall I spend less on hair products. I don't use as much shampoo now and the conditioner, which I use lots of, happens to be super cheap at about $1 US per bottle.
I order the shampoos online from drugstore.com because they are not available at my local stores. The conditioners I buy at WalMart, K-Mart, Target, and Rite-Aid drugstores.
It could just be because I don't shampoo as often with shampoo now but my hair is lots less frizzy than it used to be. On the rare occasions when I do straighten it now I don't get the 'dandelion halo' of frizz I used to deal with all the time.
Sorry this is so long. Hope at least some of it helps.
ooops... just occurred to me to mention. I use the conditioners I use now because they are silicone free. Here is a list of silicones that will tell you which silicones are water soluble.
