Hey there,
Im interested in hearing your thoughts about a foundation I bought recently (Rimmel). Straight after purchasing and opening it was very watery? I tried shaking the bottle hoping it would fix its self but nope!! There is also a mild smell to the product. Is this a sign that its shelf life may be over?? If so I then cannot help questioning how these products continue to be sold in this sort of condition in reputable department stores.
Some foundations are just very thin and watery. Had you bought this particular foundation before and it was different this time? Also did the label say there was a fragrance added to it? Most guidelines I have seen on tossing makeup when it has gone bad do say an 'off' fragrance (different than when you first began using it) , but if this has fragrance then there would be nothing wrong with it.
As to buying products? I try to stick with stores that seem to have a high turnover rate with their stock so I can feel fairly sure about getting products that have not expired. If I am in doubt about a product I will try contacting the company and they can tell me from the numbers stamped on the packaging if the product is still ok or not.
Have decided to stop using this foundation because it has very minimal coverage and staying power, may have something to do with the watery consistency. Looks like its back to the good old Revlon Color stay - Very reliable with a lovely natural finish! Great advice lindygirl 1960 Cheers
From the reviews Revlon's Colorstay is a good one! I use Maybelline's Mineral Power Powder right now myself. My husband bought it for me to try a couple of years ago at Christmas (he thought it looked interesting) and I really like it. I liked it even more when we went through airport screening a while back and it didn't have to be in that tiny little bag with my gels and creams!
Foundation's shelf life should be 12 months after opening. But if it has separated into 2 different phases, i wouldn't use it! Especially if it has a weird smell to it!
