It's almost 3 am here so forgive me if this has been done before. I'm a little punch-drunk. A bunch of noisy teens were outside earlier and I just can't get back to sleep after running them off.
Anyway, I was wondering what the weirdest thing you've ever seen in a beauty book?
I was flipping through this one mostly targeted at teens and 20-something women one day. Big section on zits. The writer claimed that while doing a show in France she was breaking out and the woman doing her makeup told her to use a mask made of cottage cheese and honey. The writer tried it and said it worked. But I just don't see how spreading these two things on your face is suppose to get rid of zits. Seems to me it would make more. And you can buy a good mineral clay mask at WalMart for a lot cheaper anyway.
Hmm..the cottage cheese would have lactic acid in it which is an AHA. That would make your skin peel just a bit. The honey has antiseptic and antibacterial properties and is a humectant. I am only a forum member but I would tend to think that mixture should work. It would be a bit messy though.
Maybe the Brains can explain why, or if, it would work.
I have seen so many weird things in beauty books it would be hard to pick one!
I honestly can't remember the last time I looked at a beauty book. I know I've seen some weird, implausible, outlandish advice in beauty magazines--but because I discounted it, none of it stuck in memory. I know I was told in a health store once that oceanic silica would be the thing to take to have stronger nails (this was when I thought there was at least a slim chance you could get some on-target advice in health food stores; I was always at least somewhat skeptical, but I used to think maybe you'd get the odd person that knew something).
How about weird things you heard/read and tried? I do have a couple of those.
I use extra virgin olive oil to clean my face. When I first heard of it I thought 'that sounds insane'. Then I tried it. It worked. I haven't 'washed' my face in over 3 years and my skin has never looked better - less oil prone, no more break-outs. It sounded insane but it worked for me.
Also I had been battling my hair for many years. I washed it and dried it every single day. By the end of the day I would have enough oil on my scalp for the roots to start looking really bad. I read about the Curly Girl Method on a website I stumbled across www.naturallycurly.com. It sounded insane too. Me not shampoo every single day? That would be a mess. I would surely have oil dripping from the ends of my hair in short order. I decided to give it a month and see what happened. That was 2 years ago. I use shampoos with no sulfates (they do work for me), conditioners with no silicones and styling products with no silicones. I clean my scalp daily using the conditioner as you would shampoo. Every third day I shampoo, then condition. Once a week I do deep conditioning with coconut oil. So not shampooing your hair so much = less oily scalp? Sounded nuts but it did turn out that way for me.
