What straightening products do you use?
  • I am African-American and have relaxed/permed hair and go to the hairdresser once a week for a shampoo and style. I recently bought a Sedu straightener that works great, but the end result looks nothing like when I get my hair professionally done. Even if my hair is straight for a while, as soon as I go outside, it starts to loose the straightness. This never happens when I go to the hairdresser! I have tried to be sly and see what products my stylist is using, butI have only come up with a few- something by Phyto, and a styling foam that she completely covers and combs through my hair before putting me under the dryer until my hair is dry. Then she blow drys my hair and then straightens it. I know that serum is a key part of the process but I dont know which one to use, and when to use it. Please help! I'm going broke getting my hair done each week when I know I can do it myself if I just had the right products! Thanks!

  • Ask your hairdresser what she uses on you. Normally hairdressers are super friendly and full of advice on how YOU can keep your hair looking fantastic.

My stylist will teach me how to get my hair a certain way, telling me which products she used or recommends, and where exactly to flip, etc.

Unfortunately I don't have any recommendations on products for straight hair, but if you like what your hairdresser uses, then ask her exactly what she is, and also if the salon sells it so you can save a trip to the beauty store. =D
  • I agree with taiwanesegurl. Definitely ask your stylist how she achieves the results you like!

I have curly hair that I sometimes style curly and sometimes style straight. When I go "straight", a key product for me to get the silky straight feel and look is a heat protectant spray. CHI Silk Infusion gets the most rave reviews, with BioSilk Silk Therapy a close second. Sedu also also makes one. You can read more about them at the link below. Be sure to click on "Product Details" for a full explanation of their purpose and benefits. Some are these are available at ULTA. If you buy one, spray the product on lightly the first few times you use it. It's easy to apply too much but you'll soon figure out how much is right for you. Good luck and let us know what happens!
