the skin and your manstrual cycle

I find this a bit strange...about 4 days before i start on my periods/menstrual cycle my skin (face) is at It's worst and on the day that i actually start i look like I've just walked out of a magazine, my skin looks amazing...please shed some light?

My initial take is that it is your hormones changing around -- after all, your hormones wouldn't be the same during your period as they are the rest of the time. The few days right before my period are always awful too (emotionally and my skin) but by the time I start I'm "me" again. It is odd/interesting, but I don't think it is unusual by any means.
